Is the DGX/DR 25lb wing pretty nice, and is it compact for its lift capacity?

I’m currently diving 7mm full suit with 14lbs lead + 6lbs Freedom plate, but planning on diving 3mm full suit as soon as I find the right one.

Would the 25lb wing be a bit big? It’s already annoying trying to empty the last bit of air from my 30lb wing (which seems large for its lift capacity).

Are you planning on using the 25lb wing with just the 3mm or with the 7mm, as well?

I have 40lb wing (bit big, but it was part of a BP/W I won at an event), and it doesn't give me any issues (it's in my avatar).

I guess the short answer is: just the 3mm.

I just got the whole dgx bp/w package. Only one dive so far but I liked it better than all the bcd’s I have tried. It’s not big at all IMO I dive a hp120 or 100 and a 3mm or just basketball shorts.

It is my understanding that it is a re-branded Dive Rite Travel EXP wing. I haven't seen one in person, but I would expect it to be pretty nice.

25# of lift may be a little bigger than you need. Particularly if you are diving a 3mm or less and using AL80s. But, I doubt the difference between that and the absolute minimum size is something you'll really notice. I use a 23 for single tank, including steel 120s, and it's fine. I could probably use an 18 if I were diving 3mm or less and AL80s only, but I just can't see spending the extra money to cover that specific case.

Which 23 do you have?

I was also looking at the Apeks 18 or 30. It just looks really nice but won’t integrate as nicely with the Freedom plate as the DGX/DR wing.

I have the HOG 23. I have no idea if it has the same kind of really-big-bladder in a small shell. But, I've been using it for a year or two now and have no real complaints with it.

If it died, I would probably look at the Mares XR and VDH wings, just because they are so much more narrow/streamlined for the same lift. But, as long as it still works, I have no reason to spend money to replace it.

That DGX wing picture in the thread you posted looks kind of bad, but I've seen a few posts from people using that wing and they have all always been positive. I haven't seen anyone who has used it actually complaining.

ps. I do use my HOG 23 with a Freedom Contour plate, too. If you look through the Freedom plate monster thread, you can find posts where I posted pictures of the whole rig.
