Conshelf XIV HP Port

I've got a 1981 Conshelf XIV 1st and 2nd stage and want to test them out (above water). The HP port is the old 3/8 size. Can I plug it with a standard 3/8 plug (LP-size plug) for charging/testing it or does it need some kind of special HP plug to handle the pressure. Thanks for any help.
