I recently bought a new Conshelf XIV and the port placement is giving me a problem. Besides my Aqua-Master double hose, I have been using USD Aquarius and earlier USD Conshelf regs. If I put the HP port to my left, in the standard position, and my primary regulator to my right, that puts my other LP ports (for the inflator and octopus) coming out from the bottom when mounted on a tank. That is not too much of an issue on a single tank, though it means the inflator hose has to be longer so it can go down, then bend up to go over my shoulder, thus putting more strain on the fitting where it comes out of the reg.

The bigger problem is when I mount it on my double 72s. I use a one-piece center tap manifold and the lower hoses are jammed against the tanks on either side of the regulator.

So how do you experienced Conshelf XIV owners route your hoses to work around this issue?

I can only think of one way, and that is to put the HP hose on my right and the octo hose coming off the left, with my primary and inflator coming off the (now) top ports.

I use a sherwood Shelpack manifold reversed so that the single hose reg ends up off the back of the left post:

This will at least get the regs seperated and now the hoses that were headed down should be headed upward as long as you keep the SPG hose headed over your left shoulder.

My final decision on solving the problem is simple. I reversed the ports for my primary and SPG. My HP port is now on my right (when diving), and my octo (with a 3 ft. hose) is on the left (where the primary used to attach). That places the other two LP ports on top. One is now occupied by my primary and the other is taken by the inflator hose. It didn't take any time at all to get used to my SPG coming around under my right arm and the octo is actually in a better position to be used by another diver because the mouthpiece is in a more natural position.

You could also try using a 90* or 45* adapter I use to use a 90* on my Sherwood and it worked great...

I thought about that but I prefer not to use adapters if I can help it. An adapter means another o-ring to fail and another joint for a potential leak. That said, my son used a three-port swivel adapter on his Conshelf XI so he could add an octo and it worked fine.

I'm going to try the present configuration for awhile and see how it goes. If it turns out to be less than satisfacory, I'll try something else.
