The North Shore Frogmen's Club hosts February's Guest Lecturer Peg Harrington of the National Environmental Trust. Last year this organization joined with the Pew Charitable Trusts' Environmental Group whose presence extends internationally. One of the NET's major initiatives has been their 'Conserve Our Ocean Legacy' (COOL) campaign, (Conserve Our Ocean Legacy). Peg's slide program will present her organization's efforts to promote responsible, sustainable fisheries here in New England including their efforts aimed at the National Marine Fishery Service and the New England Fishery Management Council. She will also discuss petitions on specific fishery issues including the Magnuson Stevens Sustainable Fishing Act.

According to this website, divers who join the campaign are taking the first steps toward becoming active advocates for healthy oceans. Over 300 dive clubs, dive shops, dive organizations, and dive businesses have joined. They recognize the need for a unified, mobilized coalition of divers who are willing to speak up for the marine environment.
Please attend Peg's presentation on Thursday, February 7th, 8:00 pm following an abbreviated club meeting to learn what we on the North Shore can do to support sustainable ocean management. The public is invited. Bring interested friends and family.
