Lets say you have a Backscatter MF-2 strobe and want to use it with a camera that is not an Olympus, or sony or in an underwayer housing... what would you need trigger the flash?

I have a panasonic G85 i would like to use to play around with the strobe. The g85 has a hot shoe and a pop up flash.

Thanks.

If you mean on land without a housing then you would have to rig up a fiber from the camera flash to the MF2. Pretty easy to do with some tape and bit of plastic.
How much do you want to spend?

Well naturally I don't want to spend any money. I currently only have the Panasonic G85. I am just starting out in the world of underwater photography. My plan for a starter setup would be something like the OM TG-7 camera and a MF-2 strobe along with all the housing and bits a pieces.

I would like to get the strobe and mess around with it on land. taping the fiber seems easy enough for manually controling the flash. I'm in a bit of I don't know what I don't know, so was not sure if it was more complicated than that.

Well if you just want to make it flash you can use your tv remote. The MF2 comes with a an optional ($24) light pipe that you could set up off camera to use the camera flash to trigger the MF2.

I can see i wasn't so clear. I'm looking to do some macro photography on land with my current camera and the mf-2 strobe (and most likely the snoot). i'm not looking to make it flash just for the sake of making it flash.

Thanks again. seems like it is a lot easier than i was making things out to be in m head.
