I am new to scuba diving and I would like to find out which books are good reading.
I ran a search looking for reading materials but I came up with nothing and I would
appreciate some help on finding good material to read so that I can do the best I
can with my scuba diving.

You might look into the Noaa Diving Manual . Spendy but worth every penny, it's a book you'll have difficulty outgrowing.

All the best, James

Dive like a pro is a good review book. Do you get Dive Training? By far the best mag around on the subject IMHO. Try looking at leasure pros book section also.

Scuba Diving: A Trailside Guide is a good start, and the Certified Divers Handbook is also good (assumes you've just gotten your c-card, but then rehashes a lot of stuff you should have covered, great for a new diver).

The main thing is that your OW class will come with a book and you'll cover the material in that with your instructor. No reason you can't get started on that now if you already know who you are going to do your OW certification with. I'd second the "Dive Training" magazine recommendation, your local dive shop probably gives away copies monthly, and you can get six months free with your OW class if your instructor signs you up.

Don't pay a bunch for a "Scuba Diving" magazine subscription, when you can get a 2 year subscription for $9.95 from sellers like Blue-Sky-Magazines on ebay.

Read, read, read, but don't "self train". And browse the older threads around here, there is a lot that can be learned on SB that you won't find in a book. :)

From StSomewhere (figuratively speaking) and just south on I-29 (geographically) from you.

Scuba Scoop by Gary S. Shumway is great. Has all the info you need on certification, gear, etc.

Dennis Graver has a book out that I believe Walter uses as the textbook for his classes. I don't remember the name of the book though. PM Walter or somone may know the title and post it here.

A few minutes later.....just saw it on one of the banner ads. The book is titled"Scuba Diving" available through Amazon for under $16.

I think that if you register yourself in a good diving magazine like the one I registered in it will be very helpful. I am registered in dive magazine. it is very helpful with the updates of new diving spots, equipments, stories,...etc. I like it so much
