Sorry to report that Jill St Clair, secretary of Houston Underwater Club passed away Friday after a short bout with cancer. We split an apartment with Jill and her husband in May at Buddy Dive in Bonaire during the HUC trip. She was okay until a couple of months ago. Very distressing.
See below from Chronicle on Saturday.
JILL HEBL ST. CLAIR passed away November 10, 2006 at the age of 63 after a brief battle with cancer. Born Jill Lucy Hebl in Alton, Illinois on December 12, 1942. Her parents soon moved to Freeport, New York and Jill grew up on Long Island and learned to snow ski in New England. Jill graduated from Cazenovia College in New York state and was employed by Shell Oil on Manhattan Island. Jill moved to Houston with Shell Oil in 1970 and earned her accounting degree from St. Thomas University. She met the love of her life, James H. "Jimmy" St. Clair, in the Space City Ski Club and they were married in 1994. Jill retired from Shell Oil after 39 years of service. She continued to live in Houston and to snow ski and scuba dive, which Jimmy had introduced her to. She served as president of the West Houston Shell Alumni Club, treasurer of Space City Ski club and secretary of Houston Underwater Club. Jill was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church and served as head of the "greeters" and as a frequent Eucharistic Minister. She was particularly proud of having been a blood donor for the church many times. Jill was preceded in death by her father, L.E. Hebl, her mother, Thelma Hebl and her brother, Jerry Hebl. She is survived by her loving husband of 12 wonderful years, Jimmy St. Clair; cousins, Nicky Minear of Pearland and Wallis Sanborn of San Angelo; aunt, Berdine Fiebiger of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; uncle, John Hebl of Waterloo, Wisconsin; cousins, Jode Rettschlag and Keith Hebl both of Waterloo, Wisconsin and cousin Pam Seevers of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Monday, the 13th of November at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 14th of November at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Rd in Houston.
