We are planning a trip to Cozumel in June 2010 and last time we went to Cozumel, this site was very helpful for us. The last few years we have gone to Bonaire and are used to having more space than just a hotel room. I am not sure we want to stay in an all inclusive hotel for 2 weeks. It is four of us: me, my husband and our two boys who will be ages 11 and 14. I think I would prefer a two bedroom condo, but would like to be near the ocean and have ease of pick up for diving. I am not sure where to look for rentals. Does anyone have web sites or specific properties to recommend?

My husband and I both dive. Our 14 yr son has been certified since he was ten and has been diving quite a bit. Our other son is planning to get his certification next Spring before we leave or possibly in Cozumel if we found a place we were comfortable with.

Thanks for any help you can give steering me in the right direction.

If you want a condo that will allow for pier pick-up, El Cantil and Residencia Reef are ones to look at.

El Cantil is an excellent location. 10 min walk to the center of town, 2 big grocery stores across the street. Very nice units.

Residencia is on the south end of the island. You do have a beach there, but you're far from town and being that far south could also limit which dive sites you visit. The current runs from south to north so dive boats usually don't like to be heading back south to drop off customers.

South of town, El Cantil and Residencia are the only two I'm aware of that actually have a pier.

There are some nice, ocean front condos just north of town too. From there though you would need to get to town or the caleta to meet your dive boat. The "northern hotel zone" is a nice area. No cruise ship and very little tourist traffic. Also walkable to the center of town. (If I wasn't a diver, I would definitely stay north).

El Cantil is an ideal location with excellent condos. Many options on dive ops to pick you up. Many good, inexpensive restaurants within walking distance.

all depends on what location you prefer. We have been renting at Residencias Reef for about 5 years as we really enjoy staying on the south side of the island since our favorite sites as a general rule are south and we like the short boat rides. 15 minute jeep rides to town for dinner we actually enjoy. El Cantil are definately nice cribs. We have taken several tours over the years when we were considering buying a unit. I just wish we could get to Coz more than twice a year...........lol.

I am also a BIG fan of El Cantil condos. My family and I stay there when we visit Cozumel. It is very conveniently located to grocery stores and walking distance to town. You definitely would not be disappointed.
