I'm taking a group of Scouts down this weekend to camp Fri/Sat night at Ft. Getty. Some of the Scouts are newly certified (to get New SCUBA Merit Badge) We'll be using Canoes, Snorkeling for Tropicals. This trip was planned way in advance so we're hoping seas cooperate. I'm setting expectation that vis will suck. I'm hoping there will be some shore accessible sites that will be calm and ok vis. Not the end of the world if diving/snorkeling doesn't happen. Can at least Canoe, swim.

Hoping someone knows what wetherill conditions are? Water temps?
Vis?

If you do end up diving, could you post about it? I'm hoping to get out there next week and an updated conditions report would be great, thanks!

A few guys from Maine did a dive at Weatherall this afternoon, vis was 10-15 and the seas were good.

reefseal I don't know if your troop is interested in high adventure camps but if they are I strongly recommend looking into Sea Base. SeaBase

We just returned. The trip was a huge success w/ the boys. We had 14 boys plus adult leaders and parents. We camped under a clear moon lit sky both Fri and Sat. Weatherill was blown out Sat AM so we dove/snorkeled off Ft. Getty. (Opposite side of boat ramp.) Some of us canoed to Dutch island and free dove. One of the adult leaders speared us dinner, three nice sized black fish.

We spent this AM at Wetherill. The vis was 0 to normal but the boys enjoyed swimming / snorkeling in the cove. They loved hiking the trail overlook. We even noticed the bench there was a Scout's eagle project. They had fun checking out periwinkles, crabs, comb jellies. We will make this an annual event.

yes, we're aware of sea base. We're trying to sign up for one Summer 2012
