Anyone go to Mount Storm this weekend?

Temps?

Viz?

I'm going Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday if anyone is interested.

I didn't go up this week-end, but last week-end water temps were 55 degrees at surface, 50 plus or minus at 121 ft. Vis was around 6- 8 ft. depending on depth and local.

Today's conditions (Tuesday, 1/13/09)

Viz 6 to 8 feet

Temp 52 degrees on the platforms

I was so cold I had to take a dump in my dry suit just to stay warm

Tomorrow I'm taking dry gloves

(:

A group of us wanted to dive there this year. I was told winter temps were in the high 60's and viz was around 30 feet. Guess they were wrong.

I was told the plant has been taken off line for upgrades and rehab that could be the reason for the cooler temps.

Updated conditions for Wednesday 1/14/09

Air temp 25 degrees, snowing lightly.

Water viz has dropped to 4-5 feet.

Water temp dropped to 50 degrees on the platforms.

I put on dry gloves and another pair of long johns under my 400gm Thinsulate. I did two 60-minute solo dives and I was toasty warm!

The current is ripping, must be the wind. I did a very slow, no-line instrument ascent from one of the platforms and surfaced near the dam! Holy smokes, Batman!

Long about 4:00 p.m. it was so dark underwater that it was like a night dive, so I called it quits.

Air temps tomorrow are supposed to be about 5 degrees, who is going to join me?

(:

Wish I was closer & didn't have to work, sounds like some conditions we run into off the Va. Beach coast from time to time. 50 degrees, sounds toasty.
And YES I would still do a second dive.

Somebody's pulling your leg. 50's are normal winter temps and viz is NEVER 30 feet. 10 to 12 feet on a good day.

Thanks! I think they wanted me to drive. :depressed:
