I know how to get conch out of the shell by knocking a hole near the cone and scraping the connective tissue inside with a butter knife...but does anyone have a suggestion for getting it out without making the hole in the shell...besides leaving it lay around to rot and stink for two weeks or so? Thanks, Hank

You can try freezing it. Thaw and extract. I've done this with smaller shellfish. It should work for conchs. I usually just punch a hole in the third spiral.

A friend of mine impaled a fish hook into the meat and hung it from a line, next day it was stretched out almost 3 foot and covered with flys. he did get his shell but everyone passed on the meat. We went back to the old method, 3 rings down, poke a hole with an ice pick and wiggle it around.

The boiling water has always worked for me. I've never tried poking a hole in the shell & scraping.

I'll try the boiling method. I want to try and cut of the end and make a horn. The hole I normally make to get out the meat would be too far down the cone. thanks
