The explorer buttons are acrylic rods that move thru a sealed chamber. They are about 1/16" in diameter, it would be nice if they were 3/16" to 1/4" or so.
Thanks Darlene, lovely colour - sure won't loose that computer. So the button rods are those raised bits in the centre of the round areas at the bottom. And they press down? Yes they look quite small. So I guess they only move up and down a fraction.

thanks I think I understand it a bit better, cause in lots of photos you can tell what moves.

first thing from that link those computers are old and those reports(some) are almost 7 years old and the fact that the nemisis isnt made any more and the commander now is the same as the gemini plus intelligent wrist unit with out the black box (basically only think it doesnt mnonitor is the tank pressure)

As for the recall , this would be a first i do know that they got some bad transducers a while back that they fixed all of the computers that were effectted (do you have any links for this recall?) and problems are going to happen with every piece of equipment (probably about the same rates as other brands) but i have been to the cochran facility mike has some very tight QC on his stuff, but as in everything you get some problems or breakage, like i said probably the same as other brands.

as for 300 for a used one man if someone is selling it that cheap there something wrong because the go for higher then that (around 75% of selling price)

as for your cousin what did he say that turned you away from cochrans because the model that the navy uses is designed and only sold to them, and the algorethim in it is a very severe one but within the militarys exceptible rate of loss, were as the others in the line are much better

if anyone thinks i have gone off the deep end on this im sorry but i kind of get sick of this your brand sucks and will kill you , its like what GI3 does when he runs his mouth, it just gets old.

FL if you would like to discuss this more get me with a PM please.

Yes I Agree. stay away from COCHRAN, at all costs. The abandon their products and customer service is the worst ever. and if you have a problem they want to charge you 85.00 handeling fee before they will even look at it. and if it is over 5 years old they will tell you that it is junk and you need to buy a new one. what a joke

Back on a positive note, I personally use, own and have no issues with my VR3.

When you figure out how to read the graphics, everything is there without changing screens (just not in exact numbers concerning any stop but the one that is upcoming). I do toggle screens to see where it has me scheduled to stop, but to face facts at this level of diving, I had better have a pretty good idea of what it is going to tell me before I look!

The computer between your ears is due for service, dude.... But seriously...There are no such animals as AI computers for tech diving. (some would say there is no such thing as a tech diving computer at all...just use a depth gage and bottom timer) But for what you want, The suunto vytek is one of the better AI decompression computers, and it has at least minimal gas switch ability under water, (3 gasses)..like from air/nitrox to a either 1 or 2 higher O2 deco mix(s), but there are no trimix AI computers. From most of what I've read in past threads, I'd stay away from Cochrans, and go with something with a proven track record. The Vytek or the Dive Rite Nitek3 for air/nitrox/deco mixes or the Nitek-He, or the Explorer or maybe the VR3 for mixed gas capabilities...Sounds like you have a ways to go yet before it's time for one of those high $$$$$ computers anyway...use the money for training first, you may decide the computer isn't what you need after all.

When you enter the world of overhead, whether real or virtual, the error chain to disaster gets real frickin' short.....

Good luck,
Darlene
I do agree with the cochran statement. let's just say I have owned cochran computers I don't anymore, and never will again. enough said.
