Might help if you let folks know a few things. Like how big is the boat? Does it have a generator and if so how many watts and voltage? What are the dimensions of where you want the compressor to go? Diesel or gas on board?

I recomend that you do install a compressor on your boat. Much better than not having one.;)

Thanks Peter. I've got a Formula 40 (LOA '43 feet) with twin diesel Yanmars and a Kohler generator with 5kw / 110V circuit. I don't know what type of dimensions I need, but I would like to tuck it away if possible. The thought is to do a multi-day in the Channel Islands with 3-4 divers and just two tanks per guy.

unless you're willing to replace the generator, you're going to have a pretty small compressor with 5kw.

are you wanting to partial pressure mix or have a membrane system? ( really doubt you'll have the space for a membrane and want to go to that extra expense).

Buy a nice 220 volt compressor for home, then get a few extra tanks to carry on board for yourself and let everybody else worry about themselves. The tanks will weight less than a compressor, and you won't have to listen to the (Diesel) compressor running for hours when you are trying to enjoy your short time on the water. Or so my suggestion goes. A compressor is a good investment if you can get one for the right price. You could also fill a few 4,500 psi banks at home and bring them along, but again just bringing tanks tends to be the easiest. Hey why not since you own the boat, get your buddies to buy a compressor?

McKenna, get a gas booster, just runs on air and it can draw off one of the big tanks mentioned. For a suffecient one, almost $5,000.00 the ag 15/30 haskel. Anyways it will work great when you get the details figured out. Just an Idea to look into, no maintenace really.

You live in CA, get in touch with Glen at Nuvair and tell him what you would like to do. I am sure he could come up with a set up to fit your boat. I would recommend a hydraulic driven unit. The pump can opperate off one of your Yanmars.

5KW is really pretty small for a compressor. The little 110VAC guy draws 29 amps. Too much draw can really draw the voltage down and cause some serious electrical damage to the motor and your other electrical goodies on the boat. Just get a little gasoline powered one and pump away!
