Congrats!!! And like said before dives will be easier when you have great viz.

That's awesome. Great story to tell, especially as you get more dives under your belt and can start telling war stories! LOL Everybody's got 'em, some are better than others! My OW dives consisted of huge waves, bouts of fish feeding while people were sitting downwind, diesel fumes....

Congratulations to a new diver. Im sorry your wife had difficulties in the murky water but I have faith if she keeps at it she will get it. As you can see on this site divers are all over and always appreciative of new comers. Makes sitting around the campfire stories great!

Good luck and stay hard at it!

Which quarry did you go to by the way?

i hear ya man i did my OW in a quary in PA and the vis was real bad 2. people say if you train in bad conditions, nice diving spots like the caribean are a 100 times better! keep divin

Congrats on your certification. I got my OW in the same type of conditions. Like other have said, it makes diving in gin-clear balmy waters that much sweeter. Hopefully you will continue to dive in that quarry and sharpen your diving skills. That way you will look like a pro when you go to a "nice" dive spot.

congratulations on your successful OW. sadly i'm on the other side.. i've gotten used to clear vis the whole time, even for months after my OW. when i went to a wreck dive that's within a bay, vis was about the same (10'). i really stuggled.. good thing i had one thing going for me that dive, current was close to zero...

after that i did make it a point to go for low vis dives and gotten used to night dives as well.

but i agree with everyone here... learning the hard way, is always the best way to learn. dive dive dive... the ocean is only so big... maybe we can all bump into each other down there.. cheers!

Greetings and welcome to SB Sabbath! Your OW conditions sound like it was challenging yet rewarding. The conditions in which we train will help us progress into being better safer divers! I can appreciate your comments on compass skills, I had a simular experience in my AOW. Those lo-vis conditions teach us to check our gauges and our buddies also. I challenge you to continually practice your skills and always dive with in your limits and your buddies! Try to get as many dives as you can in and get involved with a local dive club. Diving is unbelievably awesome and meeting new diving friends is a great way to stay in the water. Get some dives under your belt and go for AOW. I hope your wife continues in her training, I can understand her reservations all to well, I struggled with visibility at first also. It gets better and we all overcome some obstacles on our way to being better divers. Congratulations on your certification and safe diving my friend it is good to have you aboard!
CamG Keep diving....keep training....keep learning!
