Diver dies after Westcon incident
A worker has died after being critically injured in a diving accident at Norway’s Westcon yard.
The 22-year-old diver, who worked for sub-contractor AD Offshore, was injured on 27 January in the incident while carrying out diving work near a rig at the Olen yard on Norway’s west coast.
However, the man died last Friday from his injuries after being taken to Haukeland University Hospital, Westcon said in a statement. The victim has not yet been named.
Westcon Yards managing director Oystein Matre said in a statement: “We are in deep sorrow. This is incomprehensibly tragic and our thoughts go out to his closest ones.”
The police and Norway’s Labour Inspection Authority are looking into the incident, while Westcon has launched its own investigation.
Matre said earlier “there was no indication that routines were not followed” in relation to the incident.
