I'm a Fish!
I'm currently diving a TransPlate with Rec Wing, and I'm considering buying a Venture Wing for trips to warmer climes. I'd be interested in comments, pro or con, from anyone using the Venture Wing. Also, if someone is using the Transplate and a small, non-DiveRite wing, let me know what you chose 'n why.

I have been using the transplate and venture wing for two years now and I think it is the best ALL PURPOSE bc and wing I have personally used to date. The wing is sturdy and not too big for warm water but also provides enough lift for my cold water single tank diving as well. It doesn't trap air too much as it is a donut style wing eventhough it is more square shaped. This is of course only MHO. Personally, I like the wing a lot. I don't have any real complaints about it actually.

Now if your goal is to go smaller for travel than you may look at an 18 pound wing for warmer climes. The Venture is smaller than the rec wing and slightly bigger than the travel wing. I would also consider the DSS stuff as well. I also like the small OMS wing too. Heck, any 30 pound single wing out there is pretty good stuff but it sounds like you may be better off with even smaller than the venture wing. This decision is going to come down to VERY SMALL personal preferences and price. Good luck and have fun with whatever you get!

i've been considering the venture wing myself. there was a thread that talked about it being big. and i also stumbled upon this review which wasn't so hot for the Venture. http://www.divernet.com/equipment/1004divertests.shtml

i'm looking to get one for my wife as well. she's only 5' tall and i'm concerned about the size. thoughts?

it's a 30# wing, so it can't be very large... that said, next to my 27# pioneer it's a lot bigger... It's a really nice wing, the shape being square (or rectangular) is a bit of an "odd" look, but I can't say it affected performance all that much in my opinion. If you would like a "small" profile wing check out the new Taurus from DSS - it seems to have the narrowest profile of any wing out there yet (I think the Oxycheq MachV is similar from pics I've seen)

My main "gripes" about the Venture were the lower OPV was on the tank side (I think this has changed in newer models - mine is 2 years old) and the corrugated hose was too long, I also wanted an elbow, not the "pull" dump valve on the hose. But these things are all preference, definitely not universal complaints.

If the price is similar to another small wing I'd go with the other wing, if you're getting a good deal on the Venture, it's really a nice wing... just not my personal favorite.

Aloha, Tim

P.S. I still have my Venture, but it rarely gets dived, just loaned out ;)

I sold my Venture a few days ago. I was the one that started the thread about being too big.

Thanks fro the reference about the Taurus I am shopping for a new wing.
And the 26# Taurus looks nice.
I also heard Oxyqueq is coming out with a new 20# Wing? Is this true?
