Windguru.com now predicts a north wind almost everyday this coming week. It does not look strong enough to completely close the port but it will be very cold on the dive boats. If you are heading down bring a dive parka, or several of the high service dive ops will have them onboard for you to use.

If there is a partial port closure restricting boats to 40 ft or longer check with your dive op to see if the have one or more.

PS The wind direction is north to north east so it seems likely that both sides of the island will be pretty ugly.

I wish I was as optimistic about this week as you Dave. In anticipation of this Norte and doing what we can to salvage some dive days for our guests, we are diving on New Years Day (tomorrow) for the first time in 16 years! I hope I am wrong about the norte and they'll get a bonus day or two in :)

Think positive the forecast several days back had the winds more westerly on Tuesday and Wednesday and each day it gets closer it seems to shift easterly. A few more degrees and maybe the port will stay open :)

Lord knows, I wish it were not so but it will be a norte. The best we can hope for is that it is not too strong! If I had to guess, Monday AM is fine but Tuesday will be a blow out, the rest of the week will depend on the mood of the Harbor Master

Shops on the island needs to come up with an alternative if diving has been scrubbed....I mentioned this here a while ago, offer a Nitrox class....or a refresher at a discount...or come up with something.. I know if I were there and couldn't dive, I'd want to still do something dive related! Think outside the box kids.....

On another note, isn't there a Cenote on the island? Great option for a training day there! No?

There is the cenote adjacent to the Caleta, a friend that dives it says the resident crocodile does not seem to bother the divers but it is more of a cave dive as opposed to cavern dive. I have seen videos of another that is out near Cedral (? I think, not positive) this one is also a cave as opposed to a cavern dive.

There is the ever popular booze crawl on the east side during El Nortes

We are all PADI’ed out. Put our dollars in and have the stack of cards to prove it.

True there is always the first aid refresher but who wants to do that on vacation ???

Or just sit at Cuatro tacos and drink coconut margaritas and eat pineapple guacamole

There are no Cave/cenote dives that I would ever do in Cozumel. Forget the Croc, they are all very dangerous, even for the highly trained.

PS There is an outside chance that we may be able to dive the other side so if you are interested check with our office every evening.

That is a great idea and I will follow up on it to find out what kind of options we can offer if we can't get in the water. Actually the Villa Aldora has a salt water pool which may work to some degree.
