Greetings RichWilx I am pleased to hear of your steadfast character!
All divers who experience issues have to contend with the monkey on their back, "in their head" so to speak.
Solid training and serious commitment to mastery of skills will make a huge difference getting back into the water.
A major key is to dive to your training level and comfort level!

The ability to overcome dive stress "issues" comes with experience and training so take your time gaining experience safely.
I think back to a moment a few years back @120' that taught me a serious lesson about C02.
Issues are not bad they will come with more diving dealing with them in a healthy way is VERY IMPORTANT!
It is always a good thing to be acutely aware of the risks one takes getting into the water or planning a specific dive.
There are some dives I would love to do but know they are currently beyond my capabilities.
Dive safe and within YOUR limits, your dives will be all the more enjoyable.

Thanks for sharing your story.
