Hey Everyone

I just joined scubaboards and i want to get into the action. Ive diving for about a year and i have recently achieved my advanced open water cert. but dont let my low dive count fool you, in my short year of diving ive racked up a good amount of experience. ive done several dives over 100 feet (including one on a wreck in 5foot viz), night dives, solo dives, and even a rescue. my navigation skills are keen as well. i live in Riverside, Southern California and its tough to get out and go diving due to rental cost and fuel cost (im kind of broke). i also need a buddy. none of my friends dive and the last time i found someone on the beach to dive with, the guy turned out to be a total idiot, and i swore id never do that again. anyway if you live in the area or can recommend a club, hit me up. the weather is great... lets go diving

There is a alot of regular divers in the IE so keep in touch and get wet. May want to check out

It's very cool your getting into our sport and so enthusiastic about it.

But I had the hair on my head stand up when I read you dove Solo. Please don't. I don't mean to rag but your not ready to Solo dive without training, equipment and more experience. When an Instructor can come up missing in calm seas on a regular night dive for pictures around the anchor line ... stuff happens ... I dive a lot solo but I have tons of dives and a lot of experience. Please don't, at least to you get training to solo dive. If you do one thing ask members here on the Board that have a lot of dives under there belts and have dove a few years ... don't take only my word for it.

Since I'm preaching and since you already sinned by SOLO diving DON'T EVER EVER THAT MEANS NEVER EVER GO INTO AN OVERHEAD ENVIROMENT THAT YOU CAN'T SEE LIGHT AND AN EXIT. You don't know what a slit out is ... you don't want to know are your DEAD GET IT YOUR DEAD.

I love your passion about diving but I don't want to see you as a news item. Since nobody said anything to you I had to ... please read up on solo, wreck and cave diving then you'll see I'm not an alarmist.
 
Thanks for your concern. i have recently learned that solo diving in our area is not legal, so to avoid a hefty fine is reason enough to no do it. and believe me, im gonna take the classes prior penatrating wrecks and i will never dive a cave.
 
I'm glad you took what I said in context. It wasn't to be degrading. I just don't want anyone to get hurt from ignorance from not knowing any better. I was thinking ... oh boy, he's been solo diving then I hear the word wreck ... so, I felt I had to say something.

I love wrecks foremost ... but to do full penetration it takes a little bit of a learning curve along with redundant equipment and knowledge. How to use and deploy reel lines etc.

There are wrecks then there are wrecks. One day you will come to know that statement.

You mentioned solo diving is not legal in your area? I never heard of that. The powers that be have been very good at keeping there nose out of what they don't understand when it comes to diving. Where did you hear that?
 
The area is Laguna Beach. my coworker is a dive instructor and he told me it was illegal to solo dive in laguna beach. It is also required that you dive with a snorkel.

Ah...The Peoples Republic of Laguna. They changed their local laws regarding solo diving a few years ago, you can solo there if you wish to. I am not sure about the snorkle thing,although I never have a snorkle with me when I dive there and I have never personally been approached by a lifeguard or anyone else about lack of one.
 
Well im not too sure about the solo diving rule, my coworker is not a very trustworthy source. but i have heard from numerous people that you could get a fine if you are caught diving without a snorkel. but it probably only happens if the lifeguard is having a bad day.
