I have been wanting to dive T&C for a while and now the airfare from NYC to PROVO is 348 rountrip for travel mid week. I will probably be solo so accomodations cost is an issue. Does anyone have any experience with Comfort Suites? They are fairly reasonably priced but I wonder if they are close to any amenities. I have already read much of FIFI and Caicos adventures. He does seem a bit expensive, but then again I"m used to Coz prices and I guess it's not fair to compare the two. I"ve dove Bonaire, coz, and thekeys so far and would really like to see some big animals. I understand there is a good chance for this in T&C. ANy thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Comfort Siutes are quite nice and within walking distance to several good restaurants, the beach, casino and bars. There is live music in the bars next door on the weekend. It is actaully one of the better locations to be on the Island if you do not have a rental car. My diving was limited to a couple days on Provo. If you really want the best that the Turks and Caicos has to offer.go to South Caicos. Not much to do there topside ,but the diving is great!

Comfort suites is a good place to stay. I dove with Dive Provo and they were awesome. If you get a chance go to Dolphins Bar and order the grouper fish sticks, they were good.

Comfort Suites is a good basic hotel. You can walk to what you need including the beach. No guaranties on big stuff, however, I have been going to the TCI every year for ten years or so now and have never failed to see sharks, eagle rays and turtles. Occasional whales and dolphins. The walls are unbelievable.

I was in Provo last week - stayed at the Alexandra. We dived with Big Blue - my wife had dived with them before. We didn't anything big - the trick is to schedule your dives so you're diving on an incoming morning tide. The water is clearer too.
South Caicos would be great for diving - but oh God, what do you do for the rest of the time there?
Comfort Suites is about the cheapest place to stay there in Provo. You could get by without renting a car, but then you're gonna have a tough time getting out to Bugaloo's for cracked conch and beer.

I appreciate the responses. I booked my airfare yesterday...$348.00 round trip from NYC. I didn't want to let that slip away. I will be there from december 6-14. Comfort Suites has gotten some good play here so I'll go with them, especially since i won't be renting a car. I emailed Caico Adventures but so far I haven't gotten any response. ANy restaurant and bar recommendations around where I will be staying?

Sounds like you got a good deal for airfare. I look forward to reading your trip report, when you get back. It's nice to have a trip booked a few months in advance. Kinda like the carrot on the stick.

Definitely check out Caicos Cafe. Best restaurant in walking distance. The Gecko Grille is pretty good too. You will find that food is not cheap. A special dinner place within walking distance is Coco Bistro. Are you travelling alone? You should rent a car or cab it for one day and hit the supermarket for food and beer. Make sure that you get a room at Comfort Suites that has a fridge that stays on when you leave the room. I dove with a guy last year who complained that when he left the room and shut the door his fridge went off too!!

Thanks Tim for the restaurant recommendations: I wrote them down and will try them all. I got an email from caicos adventures today. They also recommended comfort suites. I'll be booking a 7 day dive package with Fifi and staying at the comfort suites. Now the waiting.......

Both your resort & dive op choices are excellent. And, it's just a short walk between them. You shouldn't be disappointed with either.

Have fun.
