Why are wetsuits usually black? Why not bright colors that would highlight the divers when in the water? Is it because these colors would change at depth and it would not matter or is it because of the material used?

The gals look good in colorful wetsuits. You and me, my friend, would look silly. ;)
 
It's all about fashion, and the slimming effect black has on the diver.

It's the industry's way of saying "thank you" to the ocean environment. Clad all in black we look like big seals, the sharks think we're seals so they get a nice snack, the seals get to watch someone else get snacked on for a change. Everybody wins ... sort of. :D
 
BECAUSE DIVING IS SUPPOSED TO BE MACHO....

Personally I only wear black until they invent something darker.
