I just got my first video setup and need to get a color filter lens and looking for advice on where to purchase one. From reading through some other post this will improve the color quality a lot. I have a wide angle lens that screws on the camera and the box for it says 'uses 46mm filters'. The diving will be in the caribbean, actually taking a trip to Roatan in a week. This very new to me so I hope I worded it right. thanks.

I did buy a new housing, but the lens are on backorder currently and won't make it before my trip.
My camera is not listed, Sony HC46. I will call them and say I want the URPro CY filter in 46mm?

thanks.

From my experience, if you can attach a filter to the port of your housing this will be a better way because you'll be able to record in the boat prior to diving without the filter and after the diving when the divers get back in the boat and start talking about the dive. This way you'll be able to have plenty of footage to make your first movie.
Look at B&H website they have many filters to choose from.
Good luck

What housing do you have? The listing from UR-PRO is for the front of your wide angle lens not for your camcorder, I think your camcorder front thread is 30mm and you can get a filter that will install in between the front lens of the camcorder and the wide angle lens.

I have the equinox pro pack 6 housing, which is not listed on B&H. The thread on the camera is 37mm. I do like the idea of having the lens on the housing for filming outside of the water. Will have to see if I can find that.

The filter works well if it's either on the outside of the housing, or on the inside. If it is on the inside... it would probably be on a really nice housing where you can flick it on or off.

You want to remove the filter when you are shooting with a video light (and you're very close). If you're not using a light... use the filter.

You can check with Ryan at Reefphoto.com to see if he can get something for you before you leave.

I'm a little confused about what you have. In your OP you say:

But then in this post you say the lens is on backorder:

If you actually have the lens then you can get the 46mm URPro filter for it, if not and you plan to use your camcorder only, then you need a 37mm filter for the camcorder's lens.

Although Paulpost has the better idea, get the filter for your camera, not the lens. So if you don't use the lens on a dive, you still have use of the filter on-camera.

My best recommendation would be to call Equinox. From looking at their website, it seems that they should have included the filter, it's standard in their package. btw, Equinox probably gets their filters from URPro.

Also, in their brochure, they mention that an optional External filter is available from them. This would be your best choice as you can remove it when necessary.

Sorry for the confusion, still learning. I have a wide angle lens and need a color filter lens. Thanks for all the input, I will see what I can come up with tomorrow.
