coke alert? where did that come from

I've been googleing for "coke alert" and it's clearly a diving related term (122 hits with "scuba" or "diving", out of 176 total). But I just can't trace this term's origin, nor a proper definition (for us, non natives)

It is a warning that if you are drinking coke while reading, you may spray it all over your computer or just choke to death on the coke.

It's not really diving related. The reason you got so many diving related hits is that the term originated *I think* on rec.scuba. It refers to the act of shooting the coke you are drining out your mouth/nose/ears/etc because you read something funny. As this usually involves all sorts of sticky goo on your keyboard, when someone writes somthing really funny that sneaks up on you they will often be told they "owe you a keyboard".

I doubt that's where it originated. It's a phrase I heard / used long before I started diving 17 years ago.
