I found the coffee in Australia good, but was mystified by the terminology--short black, long black, flat white--I never did figure out what a flat white was (since I drink it black anyway). Never set foot in a Starbucks. There were plenty of local cafes around (many of which had fabulous baked goods and yummy breakfasts).

Long Black is an espresso in a full sized coffee cup - that will get your day going:D

66? Ummm, thats not a metric conversion screw up is it? Thats not far from where I go dry. Throw in the fact that I lost almost 20 lbs I did not need to loose my skinny white butt is gonna freeze! Any idea what the boats have for rental wet suits?
Thanks for the coffee info. i feel much better. I forgot and went to mexico last time without. Sucked very much badly.

nope, just checked. 19c = 66f

but thats in sydney..... i have no idea what the temps are in joh's country right now

LSL

yeah sydney is only 19degrees at the moment but remember Cairns is 2900km/1800miles closer to the equator (NY to Miami is only 2100km/1300miles)

and cairns has coffee plantations nearby in the atherton tablelands.

Rather than bringing ground coffee and having to declare it and deal with customs and agriculture inspections go to Coast Roast which has 2 or 3 stores in cairns and get freshly roasted coffee to take with you.(21 Lake Street, Cairns Esplanade & Cairns Central Shopping Centre)

bring a french press with you (or check with the boat if they have them available)

if you want to try one of the best coffee places in the world while in Sydney check out Campos
(193 Missenden Rd Newtown) I really recommend their dark city for french press

Great advice! Thanks. I'll bring my press and buy there. Without asking you just never know. The espresso available in mexico was toxic and not in a good way. Same deal in El Carib when I was there. I had Starbucks mailed to me to survive.
I checked, it's 84f right now per the boat. Im happy again.

..... Im happy again.

you gotta know the aussie culture

back in the 1940/50's when the white australia policy was enforced, they figured that they needed migrats to prosper or die, so the italians and the greeks and the maltese were encouraged to come on over

and with them they brought their food and culture... meaning good coffee :yeahbaby:

down here in sydney, the best thing is to walk thru town hall on a cold winters day and you are smacked with all the different coffees brewing... even a non coffee drinker like me can appreciate it

although queensland is a little bit more anglo than sydney (well it was run by peanut farmer joh for a long time!) you will be able to find some ground for your daily needs :D

Now I just need to find someone to share it with. Looking foreword to new coffee's, food and friends.

you've always got Fairy to share it with... so she can tease you aboot her sydney plans :D

have you sorted any after nemrod plans yet???

Nope, don't plan to. Im just going to see what happens. Something will.

Well you know if you make it this far down the border to let me know.......

OMG!! did i mention schoolies to you??? if you make it to either the gold coast or surfers keep going.... dont stop...... dont want you to be accused of being a toolies ;)
