08Jun-18Jun 2013 MV Sea Hunter

The trip began on June 8th with a group of divers who were enthusiastic from the very moment they stepped onboard. Their smiles and positive energy persevered even with the rough crossing to Cocos.

When we reached the island, we were greeted with stunning waterfalls that seemed to emerge from every edge of the green lushness that is Cocos. The group eagerly jumped in the water for our first dive. We saw an abundance of colorful reef fish, rays, and white tip reef sharks. We could tell from just this first dive that we were in for a trip full of diversity!

Manuelita Island won over the divers as the favorite dive spot of the trip, with it's tiger sharks, schools of hammerhead, frogfish, and eagle rays, who could resist? We weren't the only ones to feel this way either, eagle rays and tigers were drawn to Manuelita Channel specifically. With every dive there, we kept wanting to return for more action.

Dirty Rock was also packed with life. There was great hammerhead action, turtles, big school of jacks, and the icing on the cake… a whale shark! Just the schools of jacks alone offered divers one of the most unique and breathtaking experiences they had ever had underwater.

Alcyone's cleaning station was ON and we all had sore necks from following the hundreds of hammerheads as they swam in all directions above us. Last but not least, both groups saw a giant manta ray at Viking Rock.

As each dive day passed, the island seemed to get more and more magical. That brings us to our hike to the island itself, where the group learned a bit about the history of Cocos while soaking in the majestic views from high above Chatham Bay.

The incredible amount of biodiversity and comfortable sea temps made this a special trip that we will not soon forget!
