Thinking about a trip to Coco View during one of these timeframes:

- Thanksgiving week
- mid-March
- mid-June

Looking for some comments regarding weather, water temps / vis / dive conditions during those times.

This would be a trip along with my newbie daughter (15+).

Any tips appreciated - thanks! :-)

Chris

We did a March trip to CCV and had good weather and water temp was fair to warm... I say fair to warm cause I was diving with a 3/2 shorty and was doing fine but on one trip it was left back at the boat house so I went in a swimsuit only... That was the quickest wall dive I made the entire trip!!! ;)

I think if you check, March is a very good month.... Vis was good on all dives but did cloud up at the Prince Albert (sp) a few times due to a nominally that is cause by the current not being able to escape if I remember correctly...

Regarding temps... according to the computer we had one night dive down to @ 60' showing a low of 72* and same for an early morning dive but it looks like all days were 76-79 with 78-79* being the norm.

Dive conditions were fine but even in bad weather, the way the boats are designed you can enter via a ladder located directly in the middle of the boat (note, I am not saying mid boat, I am saying in the middle of the boat.) This allows you to enter quite easily and safely... I used it once just to check it out and it works very well especially since my wife is not one who like to enter boats in the swells...!

This year we are heading over in January with a couple we know...

Hope this helps some and if there are any questions I can answer please feel free to pm or ask here...

Been there a couple times in June. Water temps in the low 80's. Vis is very good. It is an excellent palce to take a newbie as most dives are shallow and without current. It is almost always cloudy at the Prince Albert since it is in the passage to the harbor but vis is better there in the mornings when the tide is coming in. In June I just wear a wet suit shirt (3mil) and I'm fine but that is a total variable. I see others in a 5 mil and several in T shirts. Just going to have to try it. I have been there in January and vis was worse everywhere. Lots of mud in the runoff. Not horrible vis but not nearly as good as April - June.

Been in May June and November.

The May and June trips were better than November.

Good luck on air fare to Roatan.

Just my 2 cents

We have done March, june(2x) and August(2x). June has had milder air temps than August and water temps in low 80's. March was a bit cool for us. August had me diving in trunks and a rash guard (86f @100fsw). Not sure if August is not an option for you but we have had great weather then. If not i would do June.
Congrats on the new daughter. We would have had kids too if they started off at 15 years old.;)

I think of the times you are proposing March is best. June would be my second choice, on the cusp of hurricane season and while storms generally miss Roatan, I was at CCV thisd past June and the swells from a distant front made it very sporty getting back into the front yard from the wall or channel for a couple of days. I haven't been there later in the year.

Airfare has gotten so crazy I have made up my mind to only go for two weeks.

Of all your choices I think you did well with March. June is also a great option but often very hot and dry. Visiting in March is much nicer for the land based time in that everything is very green from the recent winter rains.
