Hi everyone!
I just booked our first trip to Roatan - staying at Coco View for 2 weeks in Feb-Mar2007.:jump:
We are VERY excited since I think this place might be the one we've been looking for, and we've never done a 2-weeker!
Can't wait to dive, and dive, maybe do some diving, and dive a little. Don't care about much else. Oh, maybe that food and sleep thing, but mostly diving.

Will we be missing out on anything else? Is anyone going to be there at the same time?
Anyone just want to share how much they love Roatan and Coco View?

I am psyched!

We had a great time there earlier this year:Bill and Terrie's CocoView Trip

Definitely do the shark dive with waihuka.
We met another couple there and they did the Zip lines.
It sounded and looked like alot of fun.
If we had more time I probably would have also taken a ride
in the open airplane tour that is available there as well.

Do every possible dive, including each night dive... from shore.

Take a flashlight and magnifying glass on every dive. Go slowly.

Go yack at http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/ccv where the CoCoNuts hang out. They've been seeing sharks on the regular boat dives.

But the cool stuff is the little stuff.

You'll find Coco View a great place. It only accommodates 70 guests. You also have to take a short boat ride to get to it. We weren't even issued keys to our beachhouse so it's a safe, honest place. Food is cooked by the locals and is excellent. Something for everyone including some local fare. If you want a night out eating go to Gio's. They have the biggest crab claws there I've ever seen. Also, if you want to get around during the day, Coco View can recommend a driver for you. Cost me and a friend about $70 for the day and he tooks us anywhere we wanted to go. Was honest and knew all the local haunts. Be sure and take a day off to do the Canopy tours. There are two. One is on West End and the other is a bit closer to Coco View. They are both very different. Also, if you are flying TACA into San Pedro Sula with a stop in LaCeiba I have a surprise for you. Be sure to take a carryon bag with a change of clothes in it and anything else you may need for 24 hours. TACA offloaded our luggage in LaCeiba to accommodate the locals flying from the mainland to Roatan. I had two cases, one had dive gear, the other all my clothes. I only got the one with dive gear and ended up hanging in my dive skins overnight! Course it's no big deal there at Coco View. Be sure and meet both Nora (she should pick you up at the airport) who's the Asst Mgr I think, and be absolutely certain you introduce yourself to Michelle the bartender. She's a wealth of information and was so kind to us. she would go home and pick up anything we needed from the grocery or wherever and bring it back to us the next day. She also wasn't tracking our bar tab very well (on purpose). Mine was only around $50 for a whole week and i can tell you it should have been more. You can also call back to the US from the office phone for about a $1.00 a minute but they don't track that closely either. Roatan is a very safe island so feel free to go and do whatever you want. The mainland is not safe so if you're staying there overnite, watch yourself. Tipping gets you a lot in Roatan both at the resort and other locals like a driver. Cars are a luxury there and they are very meticulous about keeping them in perfect condition. So don't be surprised if you have to sit on a cover or towel to protect the interior! I found it rather amusing! Boat diving is good and hassle free. If you want to go they'll load your gear for you and all you do is get on the boat. No sign up sheet no nothing. They're smart and know what they're doing. The diving is wall diving there. You're swimming along in about 25-30 feet when all of a sudden it just drops off straight down to 5000 feet. kind of intimidating at first but very cool. Just watch your computer since it's easy to get very deep very quickly without realizing it. Coco View, their staff, and Roatan in general is a must for anyone who dives and likes to play. Go now before all the culture is gone. Real estate companies are coming in and starting to build resorts. It's a small island local culture now but I see changes already over the last couple of years. Just enjoy it. It's a beautiful place and I'd go back in a second.

Will you miss anything? Yes! The rest of the world with dissolve into oblivion for two weeks only to be replaced by DIVE HEAVEN!:D :D :D :D :D

Night shore dives!

Spa treatements are great for the bug bites and also relaxation!

Night shore dives!

The zip line tour at Gumbalimba park!

Night shore dives!

A kayak trip with the Dog! Don't worry, he'll find you when he hears the kayak pulled out and will plant himself on the kayak--want him or not!

Night shore dive!;) On one alone I saw 6 octos, a red slug, 2 GIANT crabs, tons of smaller crabs, 2 eels, 2 huge basket stars, a sea horse and more!

Headed to Coco View in May - someone told me (they didn't stay at coco view) that the shore diving in Roatan was not that good, that mostly all the dives were boat dives. Anyone who has stayed at coco view agree w/this? Seems to me from what I have read that the shore diving at coco view is great. Can't wait!!

:rofl3: Well I totally disagree with whomever told you THAT!!!

The shore diving at CCV is CCV Wall and Newman's Wall and they are every bit as spectacular as any wall dive I'd been on off a boat!! You can also do a shore dive on the Prince Albert wreck which lies between the two walls and has some beautiful growth on it and plenty of other life too.

When my boyfriend and I jumped off the boat onto Newman's Wall, it took my breath away it was so beautiful.

We liked it so well last year that we're going back this year for two weeks. :D

That would be Poncho and yes if he is anywhere near enough to hear the scraping of the kayak being pulled out of the hangar, he is there. He has very good balance, just tell him to "sit" and it gets better.

The enitre staff is great and most accommodating. They treat you like family and want you to keep coming back.

Our first trip was in 2004 and we've been back three time. Our fourth will be in May for our Dive Camp trip. See this URL for more information - http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/ccv/vpost?id=1174946
