You'll find Coco View a great place. It only accommodates 70 guests. You also have to take a short boat ride to get to it. We weren't even issued keys to our beachhouse so it's a safe, honest place. Food is cooked by the locals and is excellent. Something for everyone including some local fare. If you want a night out eating go to Gio's. They have the biggest crab claws there I've ever seen. Also, if you want to get around during the day, Coco View can recommend a driver for you. Cost me and a friend about $70 for the day and he tooks us anywhere we wanted to go. Was honest and knew all the local haunts. Be sure and take a day off to do the Canopy tours. There are two. One is on West End and the other is a bit closer to Coco View. They are both very different. Also, if you are flying TACA into San Pedro Sula with a stop in LaCeiba I have a surprise for you. Be sure to take a carryon bag with a change of clothes in it and anything else you may need for 24 hours. TACA offloaded our luggage in LaCeiba to accommodate the locals flying from the mainland to Roatan. I had two cases, one had dive gear, the other all my clothes. I only got the one with dive gear and ended up hanging in my dive skins overnight! Course it's no big deal there at Coco View. Be sure and meet both Nora (she should pick you up at the airport) who's the Asst Mgr I think, and be absolutely certain you introduce yourself to Michelle the bartender. She's a wealth of information and was so kind to us. she would go home and pick up anything we needed from the grocery or wherever and bring it back to us the next day. She also wasn't tracking our bar tab very well (on purpose). Mine was only around $50 for a whole week and i can tell you it should have been more. You can also call back to the US from the office phone for about a $1.00 a minute but they don't track that closely either. Roatan is a very safe island so feel free to go and do whatever you want. The mainland is not safe so if you're staying there overnite, watch yourself. Tipping gets you a lot in Roatan both at the resort and other locals like a driver. Cars are a luxury there and they are very meticulous about keeping them in perfect condition. So don't be surprised if you have to sit on a cover or towel to protect the interior! I found it rather amusing! Boat diving is good and hassle free. If you want to go they'll load your gear for you and all you do is get on the boat. No sign up sheet no nothing. They're smart and know what they're doing. The diving is wall diving there. You're swimming along in about 25-30 feet when all of a sudden it just drops off straight down to 5000 feet. kind of intimidating at first but very cool. Just watch your computer since it's easy to get very deep very quickly without realizing it. Coco View, their staff, and Roatan in general is a must for anyone who dives and likes to play. Go now before all the culture is gone. Real estate companies are coming in and starting to build resorts. It's a small island local culture now but I see changes already over the last couple of years. Just enjoy it. It's a beautiful place and I'd go back in a second.
