Last night my wife's Cobra got stuck in the "BAT" portion of the initialization sequence. None of the buttons work.

As background the computer is about 2 months old, has been used on about 20 dives in that time and the battery is at full power.

We are going to try and remove the battery tonight and reset it. Just wondering if this is a problem which might be a warning of major failure. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Do try to remove the battery and initialise without the battery.
Then reinstall the battery and reinitialise again.

Off the head, I can only think a few factors could have caused it.
- Shock/Impact from dangling, dragging and hitting stuff.
- Seal at quick-release hose is not good, water gets in and short-circuited something
- fried the computer after attempting to link up to the PC with a poorly constructed interface cable
- you bought a lemon.

If it doesn't recover, bring it back for an exchange.

Removing the battery seemed to work :)

I had the same poblem with mine when I first bought it. I hit the button to turn it on and it just locked up. I removed the battery and reset it and it has worked fine on the last 100 dives. It is still the original battery.

Good for you.

It may be a one-off case or could be something wrong internally. If it happens too often, bring it back for an exchange.
