Hello, I have a Suunto Cobra computer and the PC interface and a question that hopefully somebody out there can answer. When I want to download my new dives into my dive log, it adds not only the newest dives, but also re-downloads all the rest of the dives in the computer's history. Does anybody know if there's a way to turn this off so that my computer won't download duplicate dives, and only download the ones that are new and need notes?
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks!
Jason

I don't think it can. It's probably the same as my Vyper and Vytec. The only thing I do is to tell SDM to ignore certain dives. It redownloads the data but does not produce duplicate entries in SDM.

But, I have never had that problem unless I download a computer into the divelog that I don't designate for it. For instance, my Cobra downloads to a dive log named Brian and my VyTec downloads to a divelog that I have named BrianTechnical. If I have the wrong one open, I have to tell it not to save the changes and download the correct computer. My file on my desktop already "knows" which dives I have already downloaded and will start downloading on the first one where it doesn't see an identical dive (with time and date involved too) as long as I have the correct divelog open.

See if you aren't simply loading to a new divelog every time. That may be your problem.

Don't ask me what I have to go through to move my field notes to my desktop at home! I hate that process. I download my field notes onto a cheap laptop in the field that doesn't have any decent way to move the file to my desktop.

Have you unchecked the "Disable Duplicate Checking" in the Dive Log preferences? This box should be checked to prevent the downloading of duplicate dives from the Cobra to Dive Manager

The disable duplicate checking box should not be checked.

The program will check for the duplicate and not overwrite the ones you have already downloaded with this box unchecked.

My SDM (1.51) always downloads all the dive data from my Cobra. I think this is normal, as it then performs duplicate checking (don't tick the box!) and only updates the new dives to the open divelog. This is not a problem, it just means that you have to wait longer as the memory on your Cobra fills up. Eventually, the download time will peak when your memory is totally full and stay there as the Cobra does the FIFO thing.

I think this is why you need to maintain an ignore list until the dive rotates out of the Cobra's memory - it needs to know what to ignore because it downloads the entire dive memory.

Haven't worked out how to stop this. There is probably a good reason why SDM does this, but my brain is not switched on at the moment, so perhaps some of the more wide-awake members can contribute ideas?

Cheers,

Andrew
