Anyone notice that the Cobalt 2 is not holding the date and time?

Is this Normal Behavior?

I have had my cobalt now for about 2 months. Sadly I have only been able to get 2 dives and some AOW pool time on it. I noticed right before my dive June 22nd that I had to set the Time and Date. I know I have set it before and that it was odd.

As I am here packing up for my trip to the Florida Keys, I looked at it and again the date and time is off.

Set Date and time on June 22
Today the Date and time is June 28th time is 1:23am minutes (actual time 12:58).

Presently I am running the Firmware the unit shipped with 2.17/2

I looked on the AA site and it lists 2.0.8.0 as the latest.

Thanks for the Help all.

If the Cobalt resets for some reason, the time will revert to the end of the last dive, as the most conservative option. I'm not quite clear as to how much the Cobalt is off by- 1:23 AM to 12:58 PM on the same day?.

A reset can be created in the Cobalt 2 by pressing the Back and Select buttons for 11 seconds- is there ay chance that happened inadvertently? The crystal based clock in the Cobalt should be highly accurate, so I would definitely suspect some kind of reset- if this is not something that could be explained by button presses then this Cobalt should probably be checked out to see if there is some hardware problem that is causing it to reset. It could be something like a loose battery connection causing power interruption- it's a concern. The clock should be accurate.

The 2.0.8.0 refers to the Windows Logbook software version. The Cobalt 2 firmware listed on Atomic's site is 2.14- though this should be updated soon. Currently shipping is 2.25.

Ron,

Thank you for the heads up. I have not hit the button for 11 seconds. However, Somehow I have drained the battery 100% down. I had left the unit plugged in and not sure I put it in sleep more. Came back to it a couple days later and it was dead. Unplugged and plugged it back in, charged right up. I pay attention to see if this happens again. Unit worked flawlessly on my 4 dives today in the Keys.

Thanks.

If the adapter is left plugged in to the Cobalt, it will think that the contacts are wet- and while it will turn off the display after 5 minutes, it keeps sampling and is otherwise awake, as it thinks it might start a dive at any moment. It won't go into sleep mode when it is plugged in. That will cause the battery to drain much more rapidly- and if the battery goes to zero, the clock stops as well. I think this is the likely explanation.

Best is to unplug the adapter when not actually charging or downloading dives. Never fly with it in place- it will think you are starting a dive on your descent, and you will need to reset to get out of it.

Again Thank You for the Help Ron. The Cobalt 2 Worked flawlessly on my trip to the Keys. Since returning home, I tested your information and you were correct. My error of leaving the adapter in the Cobalt 2, was the fault for the drain and time reset.

Thank you again, it is awesome having you on the site.
