Very little said about the diver or the incident...

A diver has died after being rescued from the sea off Brighton and airlifted to hospital.

The man, in his 50s, was pronounced dead in hospital after being pulled from the water off east Brighton by a coastguard helicopter earlier this afternoon.

Sussex Police said the man's next of kin have been informed and enquiries are ongoing.

A force spokesman said: "Sussex Police were informed by HM Coastguard of a diver having been rescued from the sea off east Brighton at around 2.50pm on Monday.

"A man in his 50s was taken to hospital, where he was sadly pronounced deceased. His next of kin have been informed.

"Enquiries are ongoing to understand the full circumstances of the situation."

A coastguard rescue helicopter was called to the scene shortly before 3pm.

It landed in East Brighton Park and the diver was transported to the nearby Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The coastguard helicopter was later seen taking off from the park.

The coastguard helicopter airlifted the patient to hospital
RESCUE teams raced to help a diver who was in difficulty off Portland Bill.
The casualty was taken by lifeboat, winched onto the coastguard helicopter and taken to Poole Hospital after suffering the bends.
Decompression sickness, known as the bends, refers to injuries caused by a rapid decrease in the pressure, of either air or water. It occurs most commonly in scuba or deep-sea divers.
A radio call from a dive vessel on the coast of Portland alerted the coastguard this afternoon.
The crew stated that one of the divers was in difficulty after returning to the vessel.
A coastguard helicopter, Weymouth RNLI Lifeboat, Poole Coastguard Rescue Team and South West Ambulance Service were all sent.
The diver was transferred to Weymouth RNLI lifeboat before being winched onto a coastguard helicopter.
Poole Coastguard Rescue Team prepared the helicopter landing site in Poole where the helicopter was met by ambulance and the diver was taken to a hyperbaric chamber.
The hyperbaric chamber is used to treat the bends.

I think, reading the 2 reports, that they were totally separate incidents!.
One in Sussex and one off the Hampshire/Dorset coast. Totally different hospitals etc.
