The Coast Guard now feels that they made a mistake by not getting more "community" input in the planning of this. As part of Homeland Security, there were not required to, but politics is politics and the Great Lakes is big business for a significant number of people
The Coast Guard should have just done it and nobody would be the wiser. I heard on the radio that some A-hole was concerned about plankton being harmed by the lead from the bullets. This is positively ridiculous as the lead becomes inert as soon as it hits the water. Bottom line is these politicly correct jerks who don't know you know what from shinola are KILLING the whole country. They should be hanged for treason. People seem to forget that WE WERE ATTACKED AND DECLARED WAR UPON in 2001. What part of that do you not understand?????? Thats why OUR fighting men and women are RISKING thier lives for US in Iraq and Afganistan. They are there so jerks like Osama can't casually come over and spread anthracks and other nasty things over here. You have to be dumb and blind not to see the evidence. Even the liberal media admits to it for gods sake. Go ahead and flame me if you like. I do not normally voice my opinion as I know there are too many people who think reasoning with these murderers will make them stop. IT WON'T. I'd rather send in the troops and fight them in thier own turf then over here. If I wasen't 46 years old, I'd enlist myself. Theres no way in hades I want to let them have a crack at my home state. Actually, Environmentalists were only one group that was upset by this. Objections came from city mayors and charter boat captains. Appartently the Coast Guard started the exercises and didn't announce them until people started asking what was going on. I feel they could have avoided a lot of problems by being upfront about it first and working things out with the interested parties. They probably could have worked out a plan and have kept their exercises.

Yup, I think many of the local community leaders in our area, rightly or wrongly, were worried about losing sport fishing and boating money.
