For those who shot with the Canon G9 and the canon housing I have several questions:

1. Do you shot in Macro or normal mode? The Macro mode is also able to focus for normal range as well (beyond 19").
2. For those of you who use normal mode do you use a close up lens?
3. For macro does the camera do a good job focusing and captuing the picture?

I have shot with the Oly 5060 and 7070. Neither camera worked well in macro mode so I shot in normal mode with a close up lens. I have a trip planned in early April. I have not had the opoprtunity to play around with the camers underwater and I am trying to determine the best set up before I leave. I plan to take it out for the 2nd time this weekend.

Thanks

I have the g7 and I am not a professional in any way but...

I use the underwater scene or custom 1 and 2.
custom 1 is set to normal mode with underwater settings like the focus and flash always on for my strobe to fire. Custom 2 is set to macro mode with the correct focusing.

Underwater scene take pretty good pictures when you do not want to think.
Marc's Dives/St Martin / Saba 2007/St. Martin - Saba 2007_473

I use the macro when every there is a little tiny thing to take a picture of.
Marc's Dives/Key Largo 2007/Florida - Key Largo 2007_357

do to cash flow, I do not use a close up lenses.

Thanks for the reply.

For Custom 2 what do you mean by the correct focusing? Do you have the camera set to always/continuous focus? Or another setting?

Thanks

By correct focusing, I mean center spot focus with no face recognition, continuous focus, no red eye, flash on, underwater white balance.

c2 with macro mode on.

hope this helps.

Hi ejg62,

I've just started using the G9 with the Ikelite housing, I have one Ikelite DS-51 strobe.

1. Do you shot in Macro or normal mode? The Macro mode is also able to focus for normal range as well (beyond 19").
I shoot in Macro mode when trying to get macro shots. I've heard a lot of people say they always shoot with the camera in macro mode, but when I try this everything goes blurry. It may be because I have the camera on continuous focus, it's something I'll play with on my next dive...

2. For those of you who use normal mode do you use a close up lens?
Nope, just switch between macro and normal depending on what I'm shooting. The macro mode is pretty good, but I do sometimes miss my Inon lense from my previous kit...

3. For macro does the camera do a good job focusing and captuing the picture?
Seems to do a pretty good job, not as good as my previous camera with the Inon, but for a simple button press to switch between normal and macro I'm happy with it, here's an example shot...
