No I don't mean cutting them up....

I'm thinking of rigging a few boltsnaps or caribiners to carry my fins. It seems like it would be easier and safer than carrying them in assuming it's not a "back in" entry with fins already on. With spring straps it seems like a natural. It would also be handy getting out, having hands free. Even the hike to the water would be easier.

I've never seen this done, anyone doing it? Good reasons not to?

Thanks,
Pete

Were you talking about putting a hole through the end of your fin and stringing something through that? That would be a good idea, but the LP item looks like a better one. The only problem I would have with the LP item is that they are so long. I dont want my fins dragging.

When it's time to put on fins, I want to do it FAST and get under before the next wave. I might clip off fins while walking around on shore, but want them immediately available during the actual entry.

Similarly, on the exit I'm not going to waste time clipping off fins. Once I'm up, the fins come off and I get on shore immediately.

The LP item is along the lines of what Im thinking but I think I'd rather have one per side for balance etc. I agree they would probably hang too low as they are. I'm thinking about clipping right around the spring strap , 3/4" OD vinyl tubing or perhaps a small loop of nylon line on the strap.

It all depends on the location and conditions I guess. I know of some local long shallow entries that can be pretty tranquil, same on some exits. Sometimes the footing isn't the greatest and if the fins are clipped off then it's 2 less things that can get away from you and your hands are free to help stabilize you buddy and vice versa. Like anything else sometimes they'd be helpful and at times you might choose not to use them. If I can get them to the side enough so as not to flop flop with each stride it would be nice at least for getting to and from the water.

Thanks for the input.

Pete
