Hello All,

Am signed up on the "Dive NY" section but am moving to Cleveland in a few weeks. Tried to see if anoyone over there had any Cleveland or Lake Erie diving experiences, but had no luck.

Am an AOW and looking to add Rescue and a few other certifications, but looking for recommendations for Cleveland area dive shops, dive operators, etc. Any info would be great. Also want to get my fiance' re-certified, so trying to find the best way to get her back in the water! Thanks!

I'm an "eastsider" so, not knowing where in the Cleveland area you are at, I'll recommend Buckeye Diving School in Bedford or Just Add Water in Willoughby. Both are fine dive shops, Scubapro dealers and have extensive training programs.

As far as diving - we usually hit the quarries in NW Ohio (White Star, Gilboa and Portage) unless you have a boat. You can also book wreck dives with Discovery Dive Charters - a local boat, great bunch.

Hope this helps....

Thanks for the info, helps a lot, especially knowing a good Scubapro dealer (most of my gear!). We're just north of Hopkins airport by a few miles, so I guess that is more central, but then again, the drive isn't too bad anywhere around Cleveland so far!

Sounds like Buckeye Diving School would be closest for you. Their web site is buckeyedive.com, Steve (the owner) will take good care of you. If you want to explore the quarries and need a buddy, let me know.

Heyhey, Toledo Ohio here... I'm often at Whitestar Quarry in Gibsonburg, OH... its about 40 minutes from my house... I work nights and dont have any kids so I'm fairly flexible and don' need too much advance notice... Best times for me currently are 9am-2pm Monday-Friday. Lemme know if ya' wanna get wet.

Another vote for going out with Discovery Dive Charters, we absolutely loved them. I can't recommend diving Lake Erie out of Cleveland in May, the visibility was a little worse than 10 feet, sometimes 3-4 feet. The Captain said people don't usually charter in May, that's fishing season LOL! He recommended later in the summer and early fall for the best visibility.

Thanks again guys, appreciate the info. Need to see which of those places is a ScubaPro dealer first so I can get my gear serviced, then I'll be looking in to some diving, Might be nice to hit a couple of the quarries first in case Lake Erie is still too cold!

The quarries will be basically the same temps (if not colder) than the relatively shallow Lake Erie (especially the central to west end).
