Background:
I just returned from a course with another SB'er. Just the two of us, this was the second time I had the great privilege to take an extended course with another SB female diver. Two ladies with very different personalities, both delightful in their enthusiasm to progress in this sport. Neither course was rushed, both courses were very enjoyable and worthwhile, much down-time to talk.

The issue:
It seems that there are a LOT of new divers who won't post here because they don't want any negativity. I see their point. Take OW, full of enthusiasm, join SB, and are immediately overwhelmed with the amount of advanced material. Thus they initially feel that they have nothing to contribute. Worse yet, some of them try a post and then another poster makes them feel that they have to defend what they said (while knowing that anything further will just make things worse). This is a big deal for a lot of people.

So we as a community lose their experiences and they lose the chance to enjoy sharing. I have it on good authority that these experiences ARE shared, but on 'underground' channels that I will never divulge.

Suggestion:
So, how about adding a VERY STRICTLY moderated sub-forum that tolerates absolutely no negativity and no back-references (to what was posted by the OP) in more advanced forums?

Additionally, this wouldn't be a required sub-forum for all class reports. I put my class report in "Solo Divers" as I really don't mind challenges to what I post, and, well, that is how I dive...

@HKGuns,

You won't even let SB members view your profile and I seem to have missed your class report: SPG and Octo?

You hesitant to share?

I am in the security industry and highly value privacy. Not unwilling to share, just figure I am so new there isn't much to offer.

Class Report? What is that?

I no longer post trip reports. Any post that is the slightest negative about a much loved op or dive destination will draw out the lynch mob. Ridiculous but it happens.

I also could’ve posted a Fundies report. I purposefully chose not to. I don’t want to have to deal with the resulting crap.

Sorry for sounding so negative but that’s what I’ve experienced. Most sb’ers are great. The bad ones ruin it unfortunately.

And that is an issue that I would love to see resolved.

Lots of members put their personal experiences out there without a trace of who they are IRL.

A "Class Report" is a ScubaBoard thing. Nothing more than your course experience in your own words. Unwashed, can't be wrong. It is just how you processed the whole experience. As others have said, it is some of the most interesting SB reading. Also a really good way to become 'known' here and even add a bit of internet scar tissue.

@The Chairman, Houston -here is the problem...

And that is the problem.

Didn't know a class report was a thing. I'm pretty crisp, so here goes.

- Paid for private lessons
- Had a female instructor who is certified to certify instructors, she dives like a seal. Very impressive.
- I nailed every skill on the first attempt in the pool as well as in open water, except for regulator recovery sweep in the pool. I didn't have enough weight in the pool so I floated over to one side when I tried to sweep for my regulator and kept missing it.

On my second open water dive I was porpoising like an idiot. On one porpoising excursion I went down too fast to about 15' without clearing properly and my ears began to hurt so I rocked my hand and surfaced. After that I made sure I had my buoyancy correct before taking on any further activities.

I was in my Hollis NeoTek semi-dry and almost got heat stroke in the damned thing while doing surface stuff as the water at the surface was 72 degrees, the sun was shining brightly and the air temp was 92 degrees. We had to take a break and I had to let water into my suit to cool me down.

I wore my Hollis because my lips turned blue in the 82 degree pool and was shivering without an exposure suit. I was warned the quarry would be cold. Past 20' or so the water was quite cold and at 60 feet it was 42 degrees.

How is that?

ETA: Hell, I'll even go against my better judgment and post a photo coming out of the water for the last time. (I have no idea why the Octo is swinging in the breeze above my arm.)

Yes, the TOS text should solve the problem. However, the problem is alive and well. And there is the problem.

The basic operation of enforcing the TOS on any forum is for a member to report the offending post, as the moderators are not out looking for infractions. If you want a kinder gentler basic, the hit the report button and explain the problem.

I, for the most part, don't see the problem, however I have fairly thick skin and have been on boards that were more of a knife fight than a discussion. I hang out here 'cause it's pleasant and I like the folks, and if I need a knife fight I can go over to the Pub.

Forget about the octo. Console looks like it’s hanging way too low. May want to attach it to a higher D ring.

Rodger that.......Marie13! I should thank YOU for my heatstroke. It was on your recommendation I bought the hotbox! Dang that is a nice suit.........Love it.

The problem is beautifully stated in post #13.

How many of the old mossbacks here are likely to report? We've all been here so long we forget just how sensitive a newbie can be. And Dogbowl is no newbie, just doesn't need the 'crap' so there won't be any sharing.
