Two great dives today. Dive 1 to 118' for 1:08, dive 2 to 82' for 1:06. Vis was great again today - 15-20'+ on the walls. Nice cat, bass, sunfish, carp and other stuff. Dive 1 was on and below the 100' wall with no lights needed (unless looking in holes) above 100', the north wall, forest trench , angel statue, 40' ledge (still good vis here 10'+), the plane and an extended safety stop. Dive two was to the 3 big rocks, the 80'wall all the way north and then back south on the wall, back to the three big rocks, 40 ' ledge and the 20' drop off. Crawdads on the wall now. Tomorrow we dive the N. Augusta boat landing (Savannah River). Vis was great last week in the river and should be this week too.

Wow 118' for 68 minutes !!! What were the deco obligations???

Hey Andy. Sound's like it rocking up there now. I am trying to put some cash away to get up there in a month or so. We might be making a bike ride up that way on the 14th. If we come that way we should be there around noon. I'm sure ya'll will be there diving that day and I'll stop by and say Hi. I'll be bringing the heavy's. What's the water at depth? still in the 60's?

Hey Krac, There is a lot of shollow stuff to help with the off gasing.

Duh !!! Brain fart !!!!

We do the same thing at Lanier.

Decos, we didn't see no stinking decos :spaninq:

Seriously, this was a quick post. To clarify, the max depth of the dive was 118' . Dive time was 68 min. This is a multilevel site. We stayed ahead of deco diving on stuff at mid level and shallower depths as mentioned in the post (forest, north wall, trench angel statue, 40' ledge). We also do a minute or two at 1/2 of max depth, a few minutes at 30' on what is usually the 40' ledge (lake is down 9') and then finish with a 10 min safety stop. Deep isn't that far of a swim here.

Sorry, Prof . . .
. . . I guess I just had wreck diving on the mind.

Often times my mind just drifts off to where I think I need to be.

Conditions have been great. Vis in both the river and lake are great (for local stuff). We have been talking about taking a trip to Jocassee, but keep pushing this back. The diving has just been too good here right now to consider the trip to Jocassee. Water temps are in the upper 70s on the surface, 60's on the 80' wall and 57 was our coldest reading. Look forward to seeing you. The local Harley groups really enjoy the ride around the lake and the National Forest roads near the lake.

Man I understand that.... I need some salt, looking to a S. Florida road trip in July. Start at Pompano (wrecks, yes!), then W. Palm and Jupiter (mo wrecks, a very nice ledge, and a nice hole in the wall:D)

A few others are joining us tomorrow on our river dive so I thought I'd post a little about this site as I haven't covered it in previous posts. We enter at the N. Augusta (SC) Boat Ramp near Riverview Park. There are two good ways to dive this site depending on your interests. If into collecting bottles - an old trash dump that has partly been pushed into the river is located just slightly downriver and across the river (GA side, river is fairly narrow here). Best dove as a rectangle. Dive across, drifting South slightly, to near the GA shore, search for bottles while working your way upriver. There is minimal current near the shore and it is easy to swim up river. when you reach the big, and I mean way huge tree laying on it's side underwater, this thing has a 4-5' diameter, you are pretty much done with the dump. you can continue upriver a little bit on the GA side, then move to the SC side. At 1/3 air, drift South on the SC side to the boat ramp - don't miss it. If marine life is more your interest, I find the SC side to a bit of the middle has more stuff. We generally swim up river on this side, until 1/3 air left, then drift south to the boat ramp. Depths are only about 18' here. the bottom is much different from the 5th street dive as this is in the fall line. The bottom is mostly solid rock with some sand. Expect boulders and rock ledges (freshwater eels found under the ledges). Look for arrowheads. Use a dive flag - a must as there is boat traffic and the water is only 18' deep at the max. The area above the boat ramp is not developed and dense trees come up to the water edge. This means that you may see a snake (just leave them alone and they generally leave you alone). Though I haven't seen a gator at this site in over 6 years, it is still possible. I had the experience of diving with a 10 footer here - high pucker factor - about 8 years ago.
