OK, this is not my idea! But Im succumbing to peer pressure and posting this for a (non-diver) friend.
Why has no diver ever dived around the world? You know how people set world records, like hot air ballooning around the world and stuff like that? Well, were talking about swimming the circumference of the Earth underwater on scuba.
I explained that, the circumference of the Earth is 24900 miles. Say you use a scooter that goes 4 mph . You dive on OC at about 10. You manage about, say, 8 hours per day in the water (tanks are brought down to you from the accompanying boat). So youd travel about 32 miles per day. Youre diving mostly near the equator, so water temp is nice and warm.
At 32 miles per day, it would take 778 days in the water. You couldnt dive seven days a week. So assuming some days off, some SIs at exotic locations as you travel, TV interviews on Good Morning America, meetings with sponsors and such, you could probably do this in three to four years.
Whos up for this?? (Wheres SeaJay when you need him?)
