Great information about where Odyssey docks, that makes my decision of where to stay a lot easier. ;) We'll likely have 1 night in Honolulu and 1 night in Chuuk before boarding Odyssey. We haven't talked about diving prior to boarding Odyssey, but might not be a bad idea to do a "warm up" and maximize our diving on that trip.

Figure coming home we can fly nearly straight through and be exhausted, but getting to Chuuk rested is a priority! :D

Also one thing to consider is your flights. Slammer did not say too much about this but the week he was there a group got stuck in Houston due to bad weather and missed their connecting flights so they did not arrive until I think Tuesday. Two others had similar problems but then Continental screwed them over by another day because they did understand the complications of crossing over the date line. This is why he and another diver had the boat to themselves for two days.

If you are over nighting in Honolulu and then in Chuuk before boarding the Odyssey I would say go dive that Sunday as there is not much to do around Chuuk. If you want to sight see you can do that on the Sunday you leave the Odyssey. Which is pretty limited.

If you do decide to dive that Sunday before I would highly reccomend Shark Island as one of the dives. We also dove the Yamagiri Maru which was the fsecond stop with the Odyssey so you might ask about a wreck that the Odyseey does not dive regularly. The Odyssey does not dive Shark Island.

Two other reccomendations. Tell the staff at the Blue Lagoon that you are boarding the Odyssey and would like to have a late check out. We checked out at 4pm. Which was great because after diving we took a shower and then heading down to the dock. Tell the dive staff at Blue Lagoon this also. On the way back from Shark Island they stopped by the Odyssey and we off loaded all of our gear which was great because we did not need to deal with schelping wet gear back to our room then to the dock.

Hope this helps.
