Any recommendations on scuba operators based on our lack of experience and time frame? Is it better to stick with one dive op or to check out more than two?

For you, I think Christi at BlueXTSea would be a good choice. Margaret at Papa Hogs also has a good reputation with newer divers.

I would stick with one dive operator unless you are disatisfied.

I have never had a bad experience with Aqua Safari. I have dove with them several times. They are extremely helpful. Last time I was down there with my girlfriend and her eleven year old daughter. The Dive Master was extremely patient with her because she was having trouble clearing. I think mostly it just helped her relax, being it was her first dive in the ocean.

They were also very strict in enforcing the Jr. Certification limitations especially with regards to depth. Which was very comforting to me as well as my girlfriend.

But that is just my two cents.

Later,
Dive Monkey

P.S. They have pretty reasonable prices as well

Let's not do another Aldora debate.

How about this.

Highly regarded dive operators include.....

I'll start.

From personal experience:

Living Underwater & Aldora.

Fine with me. I have nothing at all against Aldora, it's just that when I see articles extolling their virtues that claim or imply that they are better than everybody else because of features XY&Z, and features XY&Z (Y&Z, anyway) are by no means exclusive to Aldora, I feel compelled (if you haven't noticed <g>) to respond in the spirit of balance.

Peace,

I knew it was you without even looking at the avatar. LOL. You da man.

You can hate the player just don't hate the game!

No problemo Gordon. I like to spread the word about my positive experiences. Most dive operations could use the free advertising that message boards like this provide.

I believe your favorite Cozumel dive operator is Cozumel Equalizers. I haven't read much about them. How about giving a review or summary of their operation. I'm sure they would love to get some free advertising.

Christi is a member of the Texas Swamp Divers, a fantastic host, and her crew are fun to be with.

We had a great time with them back in October.

Have fun...

Since this is your 1st trip to Coz the southern reefs will provide all the diving enjoyment you can squeeze into 6 days (or 60 days for that matter!). Most of the smaller boats are very flexible on dive sites. If you stick with one DO you most likely will dive a different site everyday and (good) DM's will evaluate your dive abilities and provide an appropriate dive plan. Looks like you have a limited number of dives so I'd recommend not venturing North or East. IMO there are probably a hundred DO's in Coz so the competition creates good quality service.
