I have a DSS plate and I store my stuff in pockets on my drysuit or tech shorts when I dive wet.

Thanks for all of your responses.

I'm really leaning towards the DSS option, it seems to be the most cost effective solution.

A couple questions for those of you diving DSS plates:

1) It sounds like the DSS plate is "flatter" than some others, do you find that there is enough room to store a lift bag or SMB under the plate?
2) What pockets fit the DSS plate's bolt pattern? IE The Halcyon Storage Pack? What other ways do you carry your lift bag/SMB?

Thanks!

Hi plavin,

If you need to carry a lift bag you can bungee it across the bottom of the plate. Out fo the way and easy to deploy. SMB's are better in a thigh pocket. We don't offer pads or plate pockets. Pads aren't really necessary, and our flatter design limits the storage space between the diver and the plate. The upside of a flatter plate is less tank offset (when using single cylinders) from the diver.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Good choice. And Tobin's got all these neat little innovations on his stuff that're especially cool.
If you were just getting a backplate my fave is still FredT, but for doodads Tobin has the lock on neat stuff :)

OMG, Thanks. been looking to get a heavy "North Florida Standard" BP with a couple of holes for an "Edd style" SM travel cylinder on one side and a buddy/deco bottle on the other. Don't want or need one of the typical "Valentine's Day Massacre" style "shot full of holes" BP's that are all too common. -KISS.
Lol. Valentine's day massacre.

One thing that can cause problems is that some plates, such as DSS, are flatter than others, such as the Halcyon. If you try to attach one of the flatter plates to a set of doubles that have had the bolts cut short for a plate with a deeper "V", there might not be enough thread exposed to catch the wing nuts securely. The Halycon plates also have the bottom corners bent back slightly, and I found that they happened to dig into the zipper on an Oxycheq doubles wing, so there can be subtle differences which cause trouble, even though the basic dimensions are standardized. (At the time, I solved the second issue by buying an Oxycheq plate, and then ran into the first problem, which I solved with a new set of bolts!)
