Although it's mid-week and more than likely that most of you won't be able to bag out of work, I just wanted to extend an invitation to everyone on the board to come dive off the Cape Ann Diver II on the 27th for a special trip to the Poling.

February 27th marks the 30th anniversary of the first time that recreational scuba divers descended to the Chester Poling. Some of you may recall a little film that came out about that particular adventure last year.

Above and beyond scuba being a great excuse to call in sick, beyond the fact that it'll be a Poling anniversary dive, it's important to note that two of those original three divers who did that first exploration will be on the charter as well. Jack Hinz and John Butler are both going to be celebrating this occasion on a much more personal level, as you can imagine.

Would love to have you all out (or at least a maximum of 14 of you). We will be filming the event as well.

Sounds interesting.

Sounds great! I should be able to go. Sounds like a great time:D

Woo Hoo! I'm off that day! Do I call you, Aaron or CAD to hold my spot?
PTN

Everyone can call CAD as usual. It's not a charter they would normally run at this point in the year, but obviously special circumstances kinda trumped that and they're very cool folks.

When I set up the charter, I immediately reserved 3 spots, so unless some of you have gone ahead and called already, there should still be 11 spots left.

There's a really good Poling DVD (Still On Her Keel) for sale at the shop, as well as online. I hear the director is a seriously handsome fellow.

Looking forward to seeing everyone! It's going to be a great time, if just because of Captain Steve's PB&J sandwiches.

Finally managed to reach Mary at CAD today. (Working nights has a lot of advantages but the pain in the arse factor of doing business negates a lot the positives.) Anyways, I'm signed up. She said that in addition to the regular reasons for cancelling, i.e. wind/surf, etc. if it is below freezing, they will scrub because of icey deck concerns. Let's hope for a late February heat wave.

Indeed. Diving in February presents a whole new set of challenges.

As I understand it, there are about 4 spots left on the boat.

If Mother Nature doesn't get snotty on us, should be a good time.

Sounds like fun. Back in the 70's, when my family lived in Leominster, Massachusettes, my Dad did several dives on this wreck. His garage is decorated with artifacts from the wreck. He even brought up several intact cans of coffee which he wrote to the manufacturer about. They were so interested in the fact that the coffee was still good after being wrecked, that they offered him free coffee coupons in exchange for the remaining cans for their archives. I believe that he also wrote an article about these dives that was published in Skin Diver magazine.

It would be a real kick to see your Dads articles. Have you ever researched the data bases to see if they are available?

(OMG, I've gone completely over to the dark side. I'm working on my masters and I swore if I ever heard myself say the word paradigm aloud, I would head for the Tobin Bridge and swan dive off. Yet I just wrote a paper that had the word paradigm 5 times in the first paragraph and my first thought is suggesting folks search data bases. Somebody shoot me. Please!!!!)

(Not for nuttin', but if you ever do head to the Tobin to swan dive, be sure to launch off the leeward side. Getting blown back onto the lower deck and being run over by a tractor trailor cost you mega 'Style' points.)

Back on track again, it would be a kick to see your Dad's artifacts. Got any picks?
