Well had my check out dives this weekend and it was great. Dive # 1&2 were on Lake Michagan. Water temp was 56* and the water was calm as glass. Visibilty atleast 20ft. Had no trouble doing any of the skills. Saw a ship wreck. Dive 3&4 we tried it back on Lake Mich. but the wind picked up so bad on that day we ended up going to an inland lake. The bottom temp here was 43* at 35ft. Visibility was still around the 20 ft range. I started out with no gloves but after coming up and doing some surface skills I put gloves on and we did some site seeing down at the 35* range for 26 mins. So now I just need some people to going diving with!!!

Welcome and congratulations! If there is water, you'll find people to dive with. Use this board and any other local/regional resource you can find! Be a good dive buddy, bring good snacks, and you'll be popular in no time. ;-)

Greetings nitrochad and congratulations!
It is obvious you are a serious cold water diver! Welcome brother to the best wreck diving in the world that is found in the Great Lakes!
It is a reality that with that comes specific skills to manage the thermal issues of cold water. Dive safe and conservative and seek out a mentor from a local shop or dive club. I have found that a good mentor will make a huge difference and pick one that dives every week end. That is a bonus but very awesome!

If you are ever traveling to my local area give me a shout. I would be glad to take you on a dive or two. Gain your experience in the water and always dive safe!
Good luck!
CamG Keep diving....Keep training....Keep learning!

Congratulations and welcome to Scuba!!!

Congratulations. It's a good feeling. I'll never forget my instructor shaking my hand after the final skill saying "congratulations you're an Open Water Diver". I was lucky to be the first of our group of 6 to finish, so I got to do 30 mins. tour with the DM. Breathing underwater for the first time in the pool was no big deal to me, but sitting on the bottom and looking up 30 feet to the surface that day was surreal. I look up from 30 feet occasionally still and recall that day.

Welcome to the addiction!
