I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive watch that can be used for diving down to 60-70 feet. I have a Pulsar which was just fine until the battery died. I got it replaced once, cost nearly $50 since I had to ship it to LA. The battery is now dead again and I dont't really feel like spending another $50-60 since I don't need it that often. Does any have any experience using the Timex Reef Gear watch. Timex says it work to 100m, but the Timex website says it isn't intended for diving? Overstock.com has these for $30.

Any insights will be greatly appreciated.

Think about the consequences of it failing. If they are acceptable, then go ahead and use the 100m rated watch. I've used 50m rated not-for-scuba Casio watches many times with never a problem.

Pushing the control buttons underwater isn't a good idea.

I've mostly used the G-shock series of Casio watches...the 200M (recommended for diving) normally go for $60~100....but on Overstock.com or some place like that I'm sure you could get one cheaper. I've done over 1,000 dives on some of them, some dives down to well over 200'. The one I have now is solar recharged, so I shouldn't have to replace the battery unless it wears out eventually (?) Of course, in Guam I don't have to make it a point to set it out on the windowsill to recharge or whatever.

I use this one for about $40.

RAM Divers Watch

I got it when I was in the Army it's good down to 600 feet (not gonna try), and takes everything I can dish out :D

I run with the following two watches. A Timex Helix I bought on Ebay for $30, the cool part is that it also displays depth and temp. I also use a cheap $5 watch from walmart to triple check my time with the other one and my computer.

just got one monday for $20 on ebay, haven't taken it diving yet, but it does have a screw down crown and everything, so i have high hopes...

Walmart!! The one I have has been down to 73' and still going. I think the watch was under $10.

I have a 200m Timex Reef Gear watch (its been sent back for repair under warranty). It flooded at Mary's Place in Roatan (70-80 ft of water). Not sure why. It had been down to that depth before on the same trip. Now, I've had a 100m Timex Ironman (100m) that's been down to 97' and many dives with no problem.
