I'd love to get information on diving in Myrtle Beach & Charleston SC. For those of you who have done both, which offers the better dive sites & dive ops. I am not interested in Cooper River diving - prefer ocean diving. Would appreciate specific dive op recommendations. Thanks
PS: Going to Charleston this weekend. Not diving but would like to contact some dive ops there for info if I get a chance. So would appreciate any recommendations ASAP

I don't know about Charleston, but my dive instructor says there are some great sites off the coast here in Myrtle Beach. You can reach him at Coastal Scuba at 843-361-3323. Ask for Cameron.

Charleston also has a new shop called Atlantic Coast Dive Center (ACDC). It's very popular with local divers and has great gear rental and charter rates.

Charleston shops don't start a regular schedule of offshore dive charters until late April or early May. A lot of us in the Charleston Spearfishing Club go year-round. A link to our club's board is below.

I 've never dove Myrtle Beach. :frown:

Lately ive heard alot of bad things about Coastal Scuba in Myrtle Beach, both from my Instructor as well as fellow Divers. I personally have never dove with them. I do all of my diving with Scuba Express (expresswatersports.com) in Murrels Inlet. Everyone that works at the shop is great, and ive never had any problems with them.

I have done lots of dives offshore Myrtle and Charleston. I have used Coastal Scuba and Express Scuba in Myrtle Beach, and Charleston Scuba in Charleston. I want to do more dives with Express Scuba since I noticed they have a larger boat these days. I personally like the looks of the current Express boat. It is large and likely has dual props. It has a nice rear platform that is water level. Two nice looking ladders. Wide open rear on the back of the boat for easy off-loading and on-loading of divers.

There is a lot of good diving to be had both offshore Charleston and offshore Mrytle Beach. If its large sea life you want, I suggest the Hebe and the St Cathan sites. All boats go to shipwrecks and artificial reefs. I want to do some more diving with Charleston Scuba and learn more about the three reefs offshore Charleston that run parallel to the coastline. I also heard the boat Captain of Charleston Scuba say he was interested in trying some virgin sites. This is something I personally like.

We have a lot of good dive sites and a number of good dive operations. They are all different but I dont think you will go wrong with any of them. SC is a GREAT place to dive!

The wrecks off of Murrell's Inlet have it all over Charleston. There are a lot of beautiful, natural shipwrecks out there. I would dive Express over Coastal any day of the week. Great boat, great staff, they allow technical profiles if you are into that sort of thing, and they usually go where they say they are going. Coastal seems to end up at the Sherman, at the Cpt's discretion once they leave the dock. I dove w/ Charleston Scuba and had a good experience. Have not tries Atlantic Coast divers but would like to.
