This feels like a completely ridiculous question to be asking, and maybe it is, but how do I go about charging the Oceanic Geo 2? I got it a while ago and the battery lasted all this time, but now it is low battery. I presumed it would just be the USB cable provided that clipped onto the watch, but I have been unable to get this to work. I've downloaded the driver from oceanic, and the oceanlog software, but the watch never gets a "PC" notification on it, and Oceanlog can't detect the watch. Am I missing something?

Maybe I just have a bad cable? But that would suck seeing as I haven't used this one at all yet.

The only other thing I can think of is that there is some other way of charging that I am missing and the PC connection shuts down at low battery?

Thanks in advance.

Unless yours is different than mine, I don't believe its to be charged, you have to replace the battery. The cable is only to download you dive stats.

No charging on the Geo 2. Needs a new battery. It takes a 2430 battery. Use the metal prong key that came with the computer to open up the back, if you don't have it I am sure a local Oceanic dive shop will have one for you to use. It is a very simple procedure and takes 30 seconds.

Some people also use this time to replace the O-ring, but it generally isn't necessary and the O-ring is a bitch to find. It is essentially a 023 O-ring in 1/32 width (if my memory serves). Don't spend $20 on the replacement kit by Oceanic when it has a $2 dollar battery and a $1 O-ring.

Some shops are nice and will order the O-rings separately and not sell them in a kit to price rape you, but those are hard to come by.

Thank you, I am so glad to hear I didnt misplace a cable or anything! and I also am thankful for the advice on not spending a ton on the replacement kit. I am fairly new in using my dive computer. I love it though!
Thanks again! :)

It appears you have two different unrelated issues.

As mentioned by the others, you need to replace the battery. Your Geo 2.0 manual details the removal/replacement process with pictures starting on page 110.

I personally never replace a computer battery without changing the o-ring. As yours has been compressed for some interval of time, it may have taken a "set" and if it leaks, you can then send the computer in for repair/replacement. $23 seems like a cheap alternative - although a rip-off for a $3 battery and .10c. o-ring - assuming you get the right one. BATTERY KIT, ATOM/GEO I think scubatoys.com sells them.

If you can get the AS568 Dash Number of the o-ring - any pneumatic/hydraulic supplier will probably sell you one. WW Grainger is one source if you're in the U.S.

I'm wondering if your other problem might be computer (your PC - not your dive computer) related. The Geo 2.0 only supports Windows up to Vista so if you're running Windows 7/8/8.1 it may be an OS incompatibility issue. Win 7/8 have a compatibility mode you can set for specific programs as needed. Locate the actual executable in the Geo software directory, right click on it and click the Compatibility tab at the top. There's a check box where you can set the program to run in a previous Windows version mode. Re-start/re-plug everything after that and see if it will connect.

FYI, if you ever have a problem requiring factory service, copy your data off the computer b4 sending it in. The factory wipes the memory as part of their process as my buddy found out when his OCi flooded.
