I think I need to buy a separate charger for my new HC7 so that I can be charging a battery all the time. What recommendations do you all have for chargers and where to buy them.

I'd prefer a fast charger and something suitable for traveling. I saw this one but it will take about 4 hours to recharge an FP-70 battery. I would prefer something a lot faster.

Suggestions?

I just got one on EBay for my HC3- Digital charger - even though it says 4 hour - charges much faster. I included a link to the people who I bought from. They were fast and communicated well - probably need to cut & paste the address.

That's because the 4 hours refers to the battery life. That is a 1 hr charger. I'm not sure that charger will take my H Series batteries.

I have a similar model, it's a smart charger so it takes typically less than an hour to recharge my extended range batteries. And it also has a quick charge or standard charge feature that allows you to charge to a certain percentage quickly if needed.

But look for a better price online - I didn't.

That's actually the cheapest I can find too.

Thanks for posting. I'm bummed they don't make a plate for my Lenmar Mach1 - which I've used this for the last 6 years for two different camcorders.

Does this generic battery really works with HC3?
From what I know all new Sony camcorder don't work with any other batteries but Sony made ones.

I've heard the same on the Sony vs generic batteries for the new HD camcorders, PaulPost. It's a shame because I bought a generic battery for my Sony TRV-17 for 1/4 the price of the equivalent Sony and it has worked beautifully.

I don't think I'll need a separate chargger after all. I have the battery that came with the camera which lasts around 3 hours and I bought the FP70 which supposedly lasts 6 1/2. Even if it is only good for 4, the combined time is more than enough for liveaboard use.
