For those of you who may or may not already know, I am now certified - just missing the actual card which, like everything else in scuba, is likely to take its own sweet time in coming! :D

I've been lurking the board for a while, posting sometimes as well, and freediving anytime I'm out of arm's reach of the computer.

This certification has been hard fought for and I am now a lot more confident than I was, say three or six weeks ago. Plus it helped that our last dive was a terrific fun wreck dive off a last-minute charter boat - we went down to 55' and although it sounded like a big deal when we talked about it, with the vis at 45' at least, it wasn't all that far in actuality!

This is going to be so fun.....

Beginning! There's a whole world of diving out there for you to explore. Have fun, but never take safety for granted. Wait til you do your first night dive. :)

Now,

STAY WET!

What about gear purchases now?

I got the suit first, although getting the dive computer first would have been a better choice. Even so, most people get the suit first, probably.

If you only do dive travel, then a 3 mm suit is probably best.

If you need more than that, you may be happier in a drysuit.

Good luck. You will probably spend about $5000 in the next year or so on gear. Have fun.

Karl, ... you must be joking.......

Here's my current inventory:

  • 1 pr snorkel fins
  • 1 pr scuba fins (Cressi-sub Frogs)
  • 3 masks - 1 cheapo, 1 scuba mask I found in 12' of water, and one ultra-low-volume that I can't live without
  • 1 2mm shorty wetsuit
  • 1 - 2pc 7mm wetsuit
  • 1 - 5mm long-sleeved wetsuit jacket with 'beaver-tail'
  • 1 pr 6.5mm boots
  • 2 snorkels
  • 1 - 7mm neoprene drysuit (used)
  • 2 weight belts
  • 3 x 2lb weights, 2 x 3lb, 2 x 4lb, 2 x 6.5 lb
  • Dacor SPG with compass and depth gauges in rubber console
  • rubber wrist boot currently containing Dacor depth gauge
  • 5mm wetsuit gloves
  • 5/3mm wetsuit hood
  • dive knife in sheath
  • a flag float I built

I suppose you could say I have a "good start".........

$5000? At least that. I may break double that with my impending drysuit purchase. There always seems to be just something else you need to get....

Can you say ADDICT??? LOL And I say that as a fellow addict. We had all our gear before the end of our OW classes and now we are collecting the gear for my son to use when he starts classes in the Spring/Summer.

Congrats on your certification! Now comes the anxiousness of wondering when and where your next dive is going to be!!!
