Hi All!

My name is Bill from the great town of Indianapolis, IN. I got certified last summer after much poking and prodding of two of my good friends.

One week after getting certified I took my first open water dive in the Cooper River in Charleston, SC. (Hence my user name!!) I am proud to say that my 1st and 2nd dive ever in my life was Black Water and I have awesome stories.

Looking forward to learning from this board.

Welcome to the group, plenty of good info out there...

Did you find anything on your dives in the Cooper River?

I want to get up there for a trip...

Hey pal welcome to the SB. Yes I suckered Bill into fossil diving with me back in Aug which was his first two dives after cert. He did really well, and maintained his skills he learned in training. We had several finds, including a 2.5" megladon tooth.

The next day I took him off shore South Carolina for a little wreck diving. I think he now wants to move from Indy to SC!!!!!

Again welcome to the board!!!

SCDiver is my buddy that took me to the Cooper River. He found a 2.5" Megladon Shark Tooth. I found a fossilized wooly mamooth tusk. It probably measures somewhere around 5".

The trip was worth it. I can honestly say to people that I have been there done that!!

Thanks for asking.

Hey Bill!
Welcome to the religious realm of the scubaboard. "4 dives under your belt" - let's get some more done - there's lots of room under both our belts!

I was the third of the Cooper River trio - we discovered it takes at least 3 to scare the crocs away. And, we don't have to worry about great whites in the river (thank goodness).

Glad to see you here - enjoy!!

We are the only state with crocodiles!! That and chads are among our many unique qualities!!!

I bet some fisherman have pulled some decent bull sharks out though...

Didn't they just report one (great white) off SC or NC?

How great to have found something on your first dives!!!

And welcome to SB! :wavey: Put us in your Favorites, and check in often...

Yep, they saw the big one of SC and apparently the same minnow off NC the next day. I heard from my buddy in SC that a dead whale offshore may have attracted it.

On the Cooper River dive with SCDiver and BlackH20Diver, I collected a couple of tusks, a large number of bone fragments, and lost the handle on that big tooth when the tugboat went overhead and swept me downstream a bit. (about the tooth, yeah that's a fish story - but the rest is true)

Oh, and we also found the ubiquitous tank-near-empty minnow flopping around the bottom of the boat.
