I finally got certified this weekend :) I am so happy about it. I did my checkout dives at Dutch Springs in PA this weekend. It was raining hard Saturday morning, and cold and windy yesterday, but we did it. I had a little doubt that I might not be able to deal with the cold (yesterday wind was around 20 mph and it was in the 40's), but everyone in our group were troopers. I was really impressed with the young girls in the group 12-13 years old, and they were toughing it out with the rest of us. I'll definitely miss the group from our class, but I can't wait to dive again and this time as a certified diver :)

you're definitely braver than i was.

i dove a few saturdays ago at Dutch Springs in 40s surface temp. chickened out on sunday and just chilled.

congrats!!!!!

Congrats and welcome to the world of diving.

My buddy and I dove in high 60 waters this weekend (fresh water springs) in 3m suits. Quite cold if you stopped moving. Otherwise, it wasn't to bad.

Keep it up and dive more!

Michael

Congrats! I was at Dutch this Sunday and froze my bejeezzis off!!!

Lot's of OW classes there too, it was PACKED!

Congrats, I was at DS this Sunday as well.

Congratulations on getting certified! Were you out on the Peninsula Saturday? My group saw a couple of young girls running to the Pizza place/changing rooms/bathrooms and back in wetsuits and were wondering if they were old enough to be diving (although since they were seen going in the water, presumably they were).

Saturday didn't seem too bad, apart from the rain on the way there. A bit windy and chilly, but leaving the wetsuit on kept me comfortable between dives. Water temps weren't as bad as I had been fearing either. Then again, I'm a pretty big guy. Didn't notice a thermocline until down around 60' near the Comet, but I've heard there may be a spring down near there feeding colder water into the quarry. Didn't dive Sunday.

In terms of lots of OW classes, it looked like a wasteland to me... We were able to pull our non-instructor vehicles down to the dive site permanently without the staff throwing a fit. :icon4:

Congratulations. I was at DS this weekend, too. The great news is that if you can handle conditions this past weekend, you are good to go in almost anything.

If you seriously want to dive DS this weekend, drop me a PM; I can always use a dive buddy.

Congratulation on your new certification

I also got certified at dutch springs in October of 93 or 94 I am not sure.
